why do people like 18's .
i dont really like them they take too much space.
i would rather have like 3 12's or 2 15's anyday.
only 18 ive heard is a L7. not impressive at all.
but i dont know much about them so can anyone tell me the benefits of them

There are more 18's out there

Fi
Re
DD

just to list a few... More cone area.. the 2 15's would prolly take up more room than the 18 lol...18's can also get pretty low

no point of getting to low if what you listen to does even hit that hert. besides HT i see no point of an 18' its like tryin to shoot a rabbit with a mosberg pump

Frequencies below what ppl can audibly hear actually do have an impact on HT. After all, bass is felt just as it's heard. When you "hear" a plane crashing it's nice, when you "feel" it crashing it's a whole different ballgame. I can shake things without hearing it at all. That's deep! My 15" hit hard, just as my 18 does, it was that added extra depth that made it worthwhile.

jones, sorry dude. i get the fever sometimes... when i read it at first it really seemed like you were just talkin crap or something. i really never jump on people, especially on the internet. anyway, homies? :-)

and yeah, they are BLs... the box is a t-line enclosure designed by team toxic bass. the port exits 3+ inches from the passenger side wheelwell. its around 10.5 cu. ft. total...

and to answer your question...

i really just wanted to try something different. ive gone through alot of setups and have never owned an 18". i also dont really care for single sub setups so it had to be two. then my new mission was loud lows in a small package using 18"s.

and starting in about 8 or so hours ill be BACK at the shop because im building another box for them. i just wanna see how they will sound in a big regular ported box. its 17 cu ft. total tuned to 34hz...

yea we cool. is that an explorer?
because i think im goin to get 4 15's and they need like 4 1/2 cuft each so it'll be a lil bigger than your box tuned to about 36. but i dunno if i should go seald. i have 2 type-rs currently and i wanna move to the 4 kicker comps. before you dog me im doin this becaus im already running 1400rms and i dont wanna upgrade alt or change amps so this is ideal for me. but any suggestions

i dont dog any setups, i just give advice...

its a '98 grand cherokee...

four 15"s in anything like an explorer, grand cherokee or blazer is going to be tough. most likely sealed or a wall but you can come up with something totally trick that may work... you could do four 12"s alot easier...

what vehicle are we talking about?

i gotta explorer. i was hoping for ported. but in a sealed box would is still have more spl potential than 2 type-rs. both setups running off the same amp.
something like this http://realmofexcursion.com/videos/Kicker/comp15.1.wmv

that guy had to lose his backseat... i dont know if the four sealed 15"s would be louder for sure, but my guess is yes...

tremor, how is that port not blocked off? the shadows may be fooling me, but it looks quite tight, how much room does it have?

there is PLENTY of room.

for a port to work "correctly" the ports width must be equal or greater than the distance of whatever your up against.

the port is 3 inches wide, so it has to be 3+ inches away from whatever. it is that far away and plus only about 6 inches or so of the wheelwell rides down the side of the box then it flares out to the quarter panel almost... trust me, there is a crapload of room from the port to anything.

Um...and you do realize that a shotgun is usually what you use to hunt rabbits...right?

:-)

Anyways...if you have the space for 1 18" but dont have the $ for 2 12's or 2 15's...or the $ to power them. 1 18" can give you great bass and amazing lows.}

That is exactly what you said. And the most well known/common mossberg pump is the model 500 pump. http://www.mossberg.com/products/default.asp?id=3&section=products

It is a great budget duck, rabbit, and squirrel gun.

I know ALOT of people w/ those, but I rather the Remington 870.
(And dearly love my model 11/87 premier. :-))

Anyways...yea...18's are usually great for lows.

There may be some 18's in my future
*cough* hint *cough*
