What exactly does a higher Bl do for a subwoofer

Even that doesn't really answer the question. It seems to me he is discussing saturation more than anything else.

As for what BL does, higher BL increases efficiency, which leads to higher SPL. When comparing BL between products, it is important that you compare the value of BL^2/Re. Also note that a BL value at rest does not guarantee that the same BL value will be a constant once the voice coil begins moving; typically, BL drops as the voice coil moves further from the rest position, but this is dependent on a number of variables in the motor.

I tried not to get into it too much. Maybe check out some of the threads on www.soundsolutionsaudio.com where I discussed Xmax, SPL, efficiency, and such.
