i just bought a ported enclosure for 2 kicker cvr's but wehn i hooked it up and everything only the higher notes sound loud while the deep bass that i was looking for sound like crap. i used to have them in a sealed box and i think they sounded way better than now. im disappointed but is there like a way to make the speakers hit the deep notes?
like when i open the trunk they sound good but its when im inside the car that they sound weak

Is it a pre fab box? Or did they actually build it? Im guessing its tuned incredibly high.

Yeah, Chris. To make it sound "good" and musical it needs to be around 34Hz.

it was already made. they charge me like too much to make me a custom one

Im guessing its probably tuned in the mid 40's. As Oleq said, a good range is 30-35ish HZ. That could be a big reason your having a hard time hitting the low notes.

You really cant do anything about it now. If you dont mind, how much did you pay for the box, and how much did they want for a custom box?

Believe it or not, but $300 is what you pay for a good custom box - if you think about it, if you're spending cake no subs amps, you need to finish the project well and get the right box as that is the determining factor in how well the subs will sound. Any sub can sound like crap in a crappy box. There're a few ppl on this forum that build boxes - Marks Potts and Logan. I doubt you'll be able to find a good custom box for less than $200. My box is $260.

Looks like it's 4 cu ft altogether. That box should be just right for 2 CVRs assuming cutout diameter matches and it fits in your car.

It looks like it'll fit because it's shorter, but longer. Chris, take your trunk opening dimensions and Logan, get him the box dimensions.

Doesn't the length of the port change the tuning frequency? If I'm right, you won't be able to change it.

the only way a box that long will fit will be if its short enough to fit from the inside of the car where the back seats fold down. it will be impossible to get anything that long thru the normal trunk opening.

ok so what if i extend the port length inside the box. will that work? or is there like no possible way?

yeah, that would probably have some results. or take and add a little bit to the walls on the inside and kinda angle the piece you add towards the back wall making the tunnel abit narrow, it would give it almost a horn effect...

oleg says you wont be able to change the tuning freq maybe, i dont know, i would try stuff just cause i would be in the same boat as you, i wouldnt know what to do but i have a big shop... :-)

double post FTMFW!

either way though, i believe there would be some results if you did some changing to the port because it simply wouldnt be the same port anymore, it would almost have to have SOME kind of results.

"ok so what if i extend the port length inside the box. will that work? or is there like no possible way?"

sure, just measure and very carefully put the pieces in there and glue and secure with screws and silicone. in other words, do it right...

how much to add, i have no clue, i cant even design a ported enclosure from scratch, much less tune an already tuned one...

I think making the port longer will tune it even higher, but don't quote me on that.

so do u suggest a wider opening?
like does more airflow = higher tuned
and less airflow = lower tuned
or is it the other way around?

These calculations are assuming the port area remains constant...

If you lengthen the port, the tuning will decrease.
If you shorten the port, the tuning will go up.

oleg is very correct, 300 is actually a good price for a box that a sound shop customly made, i got a quote at mine for 2 18's and they told me 350, and fiberglassin it and look good and smooth is 500, and thats a single custom box for 2 18's, i still think there high though
