Both are good amps, obviously. The JL's unique in that it has the staggered power, but you can stagger power with the Kicker by knowing how to set gains. I guess I'd lean toward the JL because I'm of the opinion that it's hard to have too much power for your front speakers. 150x2 seems like a plus to me vs 85 all the way around.
Take the weaker one (JL), I have a 900.4 and I am still looking for components to handle it, may just double up to lower the power. The JL is ok, looks nice but expensive, so is the SX. The SX has DSP (digital sound processing) which wayyy ahead of almost any amp out there, especially JL and can be usefull in your highs and mids. If you do go with the Kicker be sure to get the SXRC, full function wired remote for it so you can fully control it without evere having to go to the trunk. BTW the JL only looks good on the inside, Kicker looks much more prettier with the case off! Polo..
"more power" is not a reason to choose a unregulated amp over a regulated one, lol. The amp will also do LESS power when the voltage drops. The regulated amp will maintain it's output, that's the whole point.
M.S. more power as in more headroom, as in the possibilty to use it as a 3 way down the road. Unless he has a really bad electrical, MORE POWER is a very good way to choose an amplifier. This is not a monster 2000 watt A/B class amp that there is going to be serious voltage drops that will negate the power advantage of the stronger amplifier. These are 4 channels that chances are will not be over even 1/2 gain.
So as I said the Kicker would be my choice, due to power and DSP.
