im running two rockford p800.2's to two 12" kicker L7's. i have two optima yellow top batteries hooked up to it and a 5 farad capacitor. i have noticed that when the bass hits hard that the voltage still makes a noticable drop. is there anything i can do to increase my voltage?

How much does the voltage drop? If it only drops from 14 to 12 volts, you're fine. Most alternator voltage regulators aren't fast enough to keep the voltage at 14 when the bass hits. There's nothing you can do about, it happens even with most HO alts.

But if it's dropping below 12 volts, your alternator isn't powerful enough. Then you need an HO alternator.

If it stays at 12.5 volts or near that then do the big 3. After that, get a ho alt if needed

If it doesn't go below battery voltage (usually about 12.5), it's fine.

it's 12v with the 1000 or the 1500??

If this is with the 1500 I'd say it's not the ideal situation, but it sounds like it's doable. Your battery should get its charge which is really all your alternator needs to be able to do.

If you're at 12 with the 1000, and haven't installed the 1500 yet I'd recommend shopping for an HO alt. An additional 30% current draw would put you in the "need to upgrade" category IMO.

With my old 75A alt - when I turned on the stereo, the electric radiator fan, headlights and fog lights my voltage would idle as low as 11.7, but I'd see 13.6 or so at 2k.
It ran like that for 2 yrs before the alt finally died with 226k on it.

I replaced it with a 110A and it's never below 13.6v.
