I turned HU to 3/4 of volume and gain down. I got a DMM and set it to the 200~ setting. I played a 50hz tone. I may be dumb or something but wut do i do next. I put the positive wire from the DMM on the positive post on the amp. I put the negitive wire from the DMM to the negitive post on the amp. When i did this my subwoofer was still connected...does this matter? Anyway when i put the DMM on it only registered to like 5 on he DMM. Help plz. |

Silver Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 971 Registered: Dec-06 | alright so i did it. on my HU i have bass setting i put to zero. i turned off the "loud" setting. on amp i turned off bass boost. the only thing is on my HU i have something called subwoofer level and on 0 nothing goes to amp and on 8 its all the way up. I set it when it was on 8. Is that what i was sposed to do? |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1824 Registered: Jul-06 | Ah ha that's the problem...... you want the sub level all the way up when setting the gain. If you set the gain with it turned down, the amp would clip when you turn it and the volume up. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1825 Registered: Jul-06 | Oh wait, I misread that..... you did set it with it all the way up? You should be good to go then...... |
Silver Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 972 Registered: Dec-06 | ya i left it all the way up. one last thing... also when i set it the bass boost on my amp i set at about 5. when i pu tit on 0 i only got up to 27volts and i need 31. When i put my bass boost on 5 (out of 10) the gain was about 3/4 of the way up. As long as i dont turn up the bass boost any more and i leave it at 5 from now on i should be fine...right? |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1827 Registered: Jul-06 | That doesn't sound right...... - What amp is it? - What HU? - What ohms is the amp run at? |
Silver Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 977 Registered: Dec-06 | amp is Earthquake PH2000W/D1.1 HU is JVC KD-G320 amp runs at 1ohm |

Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1830 Registered: Jul-06 | Well that HU only has 2 volt outputs (not so great), but something doesn't seem right here. You say you turned the gain all the way up and still only got 27 volts? Are you sure the test tone is good, not an attenuated tone? That amp doesn't have a high/low switch for the gain anywhere does it? |
Silver Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 982 Registered: Dec-06 | i made the tune using a tone generator program. i made a video of me explaining it im uploading it to youtube now ill post the link here when its up. i dont see any high/low switch on the amp |

Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1833 Registered: Jul-06 | May I suggest trying this tone just to make sure that's not the problem: (right-click and save target as) http://www.realmofexcursion.com/jmac/audio/0dB_wav_test_tones/50%20Hz.wav |

Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1834 Registered: Jul-06 | Ok I just watched the video. First of all loudness should be OFF. Next, did you try turning the gain up more than 3/4 instead of adding bass boost? Cause with a 2 volt HU you're gonna have to turn it up pretty far, but you should never have to add BB to get the gain set right. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1835 Registered: Jul-06 | ^^^ Never mind that last part you said VOLUME was at 3/4. It looks like you're doing everything right. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1836 Registered: Jul-06 | Except for the loudness. Turn that off and try it again. If it still don't work right, then I'll start to wonder if that amp doesn't do it's rated power? |
Silver Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 988 Registered: Dec-06 | well i still have stock alt and batt but it must put out close to the rated power cuz it does make the subs move full extension when the volume isnt all the way up. I have 2 SD2.5s |
Silver Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 989 Registered: Dec-06 | o ya and should the "loud" always be off or just wile i set my gain |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1841 Registered: Jul-06 | Definitely have it off when setting the gain, and I don't personally use it anytime. All it does is boost the bass and treble while leaving the midrange unchanged. If a system needs tuning, I use an EQ. |

Silver Member Username: Jesse59672OK Post Number: 228 Registered: Feb-07 | yeah ive never used loud on anything i've had how much is a dmm anyways? i set my gains by ear pretty much.. doesn't sound like anything is clipping but i'm not sure if im giving my sub the most i can |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1853 Registered: Jul-06 | No. You shouldn't be using bass boost or anything after the gain is set. The sub level on the HU should be all the way up, so that you can turn the sub down when you want, but not turn it up into clipping. Then, if the system needs tuning, it should be EQ'd by first cutting certain frequencies, then boosting other if that is not enough. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1854 Registered: Jul-06 | I don't get how people can install systems without even owning a DMM, lol. But you can get them for about $20 at any walmart or hardware store. |
Silver Member Username: Jesse59672OK Post Number: 230 Registered: Feb-07 | what i did was turn up all of my settings and the volume as well and slowly turned the gain up until it started clipping then turned it back down lol |
Silver Member Username: Dakangofkrunk162Post Number: 111 Registered: Apr-07 | yea DMM should be rite next to ur Alan Renches and Screw drivers i got mine for like 15 dollers or so Got the smily face on that one Wal mart |

Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1889 Registered: Jul-06 | No problem man It was probably the loudness setting, I doubt the tone was bad but ya never know. |

SUV really, but I call the old ones trucks cause they basically are an S series tuck with the back closed in. 4WD FTW (we need it in the winter in PA) It looks kinda like this, except it is a 4 door, the 4 door ones are longer. Not an actual pic of mine: |
