Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 57 Registered: Feb-07 | alright cool thanks... what would you recommend for box size and port tuning for the 15" |
Gold Member Username: Nyyfan13Fi SSD USA Post Number: 4816 Registered: Jul-06 | i would do 3.5cuft tuned to 33-35hz |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 61 Registered: Feb-07 | ok cool. also the amp im using is a kenwood kac 9152d... i know they suck but its all i have until i get some money this summer... but i wanted to know if that would be enough power for it and also how to set the gain correctly |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1753 Registered: Jul-06 | For setting gains: http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/setgain.asp And yes you're right those amps do suck. But hey if it's all you've got, then I guess run it till you can get something better. BTW don't run that amp at 1 ohm even though it claims to be able to handle it. I have heard of a few cases of those amps blowing when run at 1 ohm, and I heard from someone who talked to kenwood about it that they (kenwood) don't recommend running those at 1 ohm anymore due to so many failures. |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 66 Registered: Feb-07 | if i cant run it at one i would have to run it at 4 right? what do u think the sound difference would be from 1 ohm to 4 ohm but yea i wont run it at 1 if u dont think its a good idea |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1754 Registered: Jul-06 | Depends on what voice coils the sub is? And you could run it at 1 ohm if you really wanted to, I'm just sayin what I've heard and wouldn't expect it to last real long that way. |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 68 Registered: Feb-07 | would it hurt the sub at all cause i dont care much about the amp ill get a new one pretty soon |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 69 Registered: Feb-07 | what are the options for the voice coils of the sub.. i would just get the one that u would recommend |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1758 Registered: Jul-06 | Well you would need to decide what amp you will be getting, then choose the subs VCs based on wether the amp is 1 ohm or 2 ohm stable. |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 72 Registered: Feb-07 | what if i told u i was planning on getting a 1ohm stable amp later |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1760 Registered: Jul-06 | Then you would need a dual 2 ohm sub. And if that's the case, I would run the kenwood at 4 ohms until you get the new amp. You won't get much power, but hopefully it won't be too long till ya get the new amp? |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 75 Registered: Feb-07 | yea probably early to mid july. it all depends on when the place i work at opens this year since its kindof changes yearly. but if i decide to order the ssd now then i should get duel 2 ohm? |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Southeast PA Post Number: 1763 Registered: Jul-06 | Yes. As long as you're positive that your amp will be 1 ohm stable. |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 77 Registered: Feb-07 | yea ill make sure that it will be. any amps that u would recommend that are in a good price range? |
Silver Member Username: Liqdfire3Lee high acres, Florida Post Number: 188 Registered: Sep-05 | i had a kenwood amp identical to the one your goin to be running and i had it wired to 1 ohm on a kicker l7 and it ran fine. but maybe it was just my amp. dunno |
Bronze Member Username: M0nkeyman692Post Number: 80 Registered: Feb-07 | yea so ill just risk it and if anything does happen then ill still be getting the new amp soon enough |
