just got done installing this box today. it was built by a guy named chad geary in chino, california. it took all day and got late. i metered it real quick and i hit 148.6db playing a 40hz test tone. he needs to tune the box a little better and do some other stuff. didn't have time today so i have to go back next saturday. he told me 150 is no problem cause he barely did anything to it yet.
the box is 8 cuft tuned to 42hz but due to the accoustics of my car it plays real low. i mean low. lol. the front baffle is 3 layers and the top, bottom and the back are 2 layers. the sides are just one layer. the box is solid.
only one problem though. the dam hu skips when i turn it up. i have a pioneer premier deh-p390mp. i am hoping it is skipping cause its a lower end model. i will be getting the pioneer premier 690ub this week. hopefully that hu won't skip as much otherwise i am in trouble when i am bassracing.
wowwwwwwww. that box is the best one ive seen no lie. i wihs i ha done like it, it looks liek he did allot of sanding and put allot of work into it. i cant belive he ddi it in one day even knowing its not finished but dammmm..what did he use to make it all rounded do you knwo chad?
That box looks awesome... I love the port idea blowing towards the rear window... I thought about mentionaing that but didn't wanna sound like a moron...
yeah that was what i was thinking. well next week he said he will work on the tuning and some other stuff. then he will take time to meter it and find the perfect note for my car.
if you werent TRYING to be such a hom0 you'd know that he wasnt saying "a really strong box, reguardless of size, shape, tune or anything is a loud box"
and why cant a 14cuft box for one sub be loud? what if a SPL competitor wantd to use a jackhamer and found that it likes 14cuft... exactly, you didnt say anything specific but yet anyone can try to be a dic k.. fukkin douche canoe lol
"Louder" will vary and not by much though. But I would rather have a box that is more rigid and less likely to fall apart.
SPL is an interesting thing too... in lower pressure applications things flexing can actually gain you numbers. Having an absolutely sonically inert box and car might not be best... but for Extreme applications, keeping that pressure in is key (both to keep the subs together and to keep things consistant). The difference between a SS and EX vehicle is pretty much the changes done to the cabin in order to keep pressure in... while Steve Cook did just crack a 70 in SS, I have no doubt that he could gain 6+ dB with the same setup if it was given the Extreme treatment. I have seen many cars that pull off 175+ scores and you really never even heard them hit it... score just pops up on the screen.
^Thank you for clearing that up Scott. These kids think that a "Strong" box means loud.Even though my buddy was hitting 163s with a box made out of 3/4'' MDF with tons of flex, how can that be?It's not "Strong" so how is it loud?Hmmm....I can't figure it out....oh that's right it was a well designed SPL box.Stick to what you know instead of running your mouth, thanks.
Rob, your not that smart, get over yourself... scott showed how it CAN be beneficial... if you knew how all that worked then you would have explained it yourself. no one ever contradicted the design isnt the most important part. and you, infact, knew we all knew that. i really think you have a mental disability to try to hurt others to make yourself feel better. real respectable.
if flex is always good then go build a box out of 1/2inch
"Rob, your not that smart"-I think you meant "You're"-Meaning you are. Take some time off ecoustics and learn a little English, thanks I never said I was smart either.Actually, I prefer that people think I'm dumb because then they expect less from me.
You could definetly tell what I was saying so there was no need to correct me. It's just a bad typing habbit many have when not writing formally. If you want to play games there is supposed to be a space inbetween the period and the "A" in "actually". And the fact that you want others to expect less is just a selfish and demoralizing way to live, so congrats.
I too love ecoustics. Please act as your suposed to on ecoustics rather than how you want to. Thanks, Th3pwn3r. -Trevor

How exactly am I supposed to act Trevor? Can you please tell me?Oh and should I sit upright in my chair as well?I wouldn't want bad posture. It's also my HABIT to state my opinion and I'm SUPPOSED to say whatever I feel.Thank you Trevor.
You're supposed to not be a douchebag and help and appreciate people. Your posture is up to you and you started correcting people about stupid ish. I really think you have some sort of bi-polarness. Whatever, it really doesn't affect me, it's just kind of annoying. I'll just completely ignore it from now on. Your welcome.
Paul the mods wouldn't do anything because we're not out of control...we're not calling each other names or bypassing the word filters so...what would a mod do?I think Chad kinda likes how I get into these "fights" they're always funny.
Just post at the other forum =). I'll be there again on saturday Chad. My amp better come in this week, so that I can probaly get measured too!!!!!! :D
I want to start off by saying that the box looks great and I'm glad you're happy with it!
But, 148.6db @ 40hz kind of worries me. I know you said that he will improve the tuning, but on 8000w I expect a lot better. I know you said it plays low, and I'm sure it does, but a high tuning like that should produce a much higher spl.
Haha,Driving, Chad hates you It's all good though.I can hate if I want!Good thing you gave up on hitting 150 David, there was no way you could do it with that single 9515 in that vehicle.
I can't wait to see those #'s saturday! Hopefully you pop off something pretty high.
What I meant about the tuning was 42hz is on the high side of tuning for a daily box, but like you said, it hits low. I agree that peaking at 40hz on the TL isn't that high. Hell, I peak at 44-46hz and I drive and SUV.
yeah my car accoustics is weird. for some reason it makes the box seem like its tuned low. like i said, i am not sure what he will do this saturday but if it gets me in the 50s, i will be happy.
he is gonna try to get me at 152-153. but you know my main concern is to be at 150db doing bassrace.
chad, as far as tuning. the calculators might say its tuning is 42hz but what ive learned from pete at TTB is that those calculators online will only give you an estimated tuing point. for one we know that objects in the car like how close the port is to somehting may effect tuning. another thing that can affect tuning is the location of the port on the box which pete knows all about but we are lost lol. so your actual tuning is probably around 35. everybody on this forum who tried tuning to hit a number missed their actuall point I'm pretty sure. even marshall. but he has aeros so he can go back and cut them a little shorter until he finally peaks. but for just hooking it up 148.6 isnt bad. i think you can crank a 150 out of it if you play with it long enough. now just to find that perfect song.... lol
Yea but you want consistent lines too.Bassracing isn't as easy as you think just because you have the right song. It's easy to overshoot or mess up because of things like box rise or voltage spike etc...
