Thursday, April 12, 2007 - 16:58 GMT Sealed is better for sq than ported. And out of that entire list, only the W6's and the IDMAX could be considered sq subwoofers. What is your budget and what kind of amp do you have?

Thursday, April 12, 2007 - 17:16 GMT I doubt you would want to afford chargin upgrades after spending the money on the IDMAX's and the Q's will also require chargin upgrades. I would go with the w6v2's. They are among the best SQ woofers made.

Thursday, April 12, 2007 - 18:43 GMT the Fi Q or IDMax, sealed. both are excellent subs. also, consider a single 15" instead of two 12" for SQ

Thursday, April 12, 2007 - 19:11 GMT The W6's do have great sq. Within that group I would pick them over any of the other subs mentioned.

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 22:25 GMT Glasswolf, wouldn't two 12"= more cone area= more ouput.. why do u suggest a single 15 ? Wouldnt the 12's give a tighter bass and still be able to produce reasonable bandwidth if properly crossed over ?

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 22:28 GMT No, 15's can play lower, and have just as good SQ as 12's do. Changing the size of a subwoofer has no effect on how tight the bass will sound.

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 22:38 GMT If i do consider buying a 15, which is kinda unlikely, which sub do u suggest? since jl w6 series doesnt come in 15" and neither does the idmax..... Those seems to have been the popular choices, followed closely by fi....

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 22:59 GMT which amp would u recommend ive read good reviews on the kickers, never use them myself.. except for the subz. orion 1200d kicker kx1200.1 kicker zx1500.1 i hoping to buy after i've purchased the subs. is there a huge difference between the kicker kx1200.1 and the kicker zx1500.1, except for power output and model number ? Is an electrical upgrade necessary?

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 23:05 GMT i'd go with the kx1200.1, you'll see upwards of 1500wrms on a strong charging system. and i'd go ahead and upgrade the alt. and everything else. depending on the alt. you have now though you may be good with just a better battery and doing the big 3. and the main difference between the kx1200.1 and zx1500.1 (besides what you stated already) is that the kx series is 1ohm stable while the zx is 2ohm stable.

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 23:11 GMT the upgrade depends on your car, but i will say no for the 1200 and yes for the 1500, i think the difference is that the kx is digital

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 23:22 GMT the kx series isn't digital, the sx series is. 1500.1 might be a bit much for a single q. scott at fi recommended to me 800-1200wrms clean power for a q. a little more if your smart with it but personally the 1500.1 might be much since it'll probably actually do closer to 1800wrms with a good charging system.

Friday, April 13, 2007 - 23:33 GMT im thinking about running 8" for midbass in the front stage. would a lowpass of 60hz @ 12db be reasonable for the sub if i go sealed. I guess at that slope it would roll off smoothly into the upper mid-bass where the 8's would take over. im using a 6xs. im hoping about upgrading to the newer alpine processor when i get my hands on some$$, but im not too knowledgeable on the delayed timing feature.. too bad ppi, no longer does processors...

Saturday, April 14, 2007 - 03:30 GMT If looking at a 15, the MAG 15 would also keep you on your toes. OR for a nice ported setup, 2 SI BM 12's would be sweet. Kevin

Saturday, April 14, 2007 - 17:24 GMT if the OP wants SQ, a single sub will blend better with midbass/midrange, without overpowering the entire system. SQ isn't about "louder" but about sounding "live" and "real" like you're hearing an actual concert performance.. so overwhelming bass is really not wanted in a true SQ setup. A lot of SQ guys only use a single 10" or 8" sub for this reason. As for range etc, a 12" and 15" can both play well below the range of our hearing, but the 15" will generally have a lower Fs, so it'll hit harder at lower frequencies with the same given power. as for response though, its nothing to do with cone size. the quickness or responsiveness of a sub is all about it's Bl curve, or motor strength. think of a speaker like a weight lifter. it's not about how big (heavy) the guy is, but how well-developed his muscles are.
