well i have a sealed box for my 2 12inch L5s and i hear that ported is louder and im all wbout SPL so could i port the box even though its sealed. And if i could what would i do drill a hole and put a piece of PBC pipe in the hole or somethin. I really dont know.
Go to bcae1.com and look at subs and enclosure section. Answer to your question is no. If you want ported, you will need to design the box from the start. Same logic applies if you wanted to go the other way, ported to sealed.
damping material only compensates for a 10% gain in volume. a ported enclosure is usually larger on the order of 50%. you cannot take a sealed box, cut a hole in it, stuff in a port, and expect it to work. just build a new box to the proper specs.
"sealed enclosures are usually built smaller than ported so don't do it."
Chad didn't you just take a sealed box and stick 4'' aeros on it?Lol...you CAN do it but will it perform well?Probably not.The best thing to do would be to build an all new box or have a box built for you.
