would cdt cl-61 components overpower a single shiva? the cdts are rated 90w rms so thats 180w for a pair. i only have 350w going to my shiva.

well how much do you have going to the components, because if you don't have a amp for them then you probably only have 20 to 25 rms going to them and that from you deck.
most decks put out about 11-22wRMS per channel. the alpine Vdrive models deliver 27 watts per ch. based on that, there's no way they'd do more than a sub with an amp. you'll be fine. you can always adjust sub level from teh head unit too.
well my current hu prolly only puts out 15wrms or less. but i was thinkin about gettin a 50w 2 chan amp to push the separates. im not sure if the cdts would sound decent being underpowered by 40w tho.

They should be fine. Usually, I match sub level with the total continuous power of the other speakers (example: 50x4 amp on 4 speakers, use at least 200W for the sub) this is more of a minimum really, and depends on your taste, but that's the least you should go.
