I've been wanting to get an active setup for a while now. My original plan was to get a couple of Ascendant Audio Poly Mids but since they aren't coming out till summer, I guess I'll just try something else.

I have a Zapco Ref. 360.4 amplifier already.

My plan is to get these tweeters http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=7079259.676&pid=2135

and these mids http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=7079259.676&pid=989

Would this be a good idea for an active setup or not?

Yeah Seas makes good stuff, but...... I wish Jonathan were here. IIRC those magnesium cone drivers exhibit some weird resonances that Seas manages to tame using a notch filter in the Lotus Reference Series:

If you plan on going active you're probably gonna want an EQ regardless.

btw I've got set of the Lotus Refernces sittin in my room right now. Hopefully I'll have em installed soon and see if they are as great as everyone says. :P

I think I can equalize them with my Head Unit.

It's a Premier P880PRS

It's got a three way system

Thanks for the heads up on the seas mids. How about these? Would these be better or not?

I was planning on bridging the mids on two channels of the amp which will give them around 100 watts per mid

and I was going to put the tweets on the other two channels which will give them around 60 watts each.

keep in mind the excels are 8ohm so they wont be seeing much power. i dont think madisound sells the lotus but if you can find a set of them i would get them.

You could purchase the Lotus Reference drivers separately, but you'll pay for them:

http://www.mobilesq.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=27_30_23_35&products_id=162

However since when you email Eng to purchase them(they don't use a phone) he should give you a break on the price. I "only" paid $995 + shipping for the complete component set.

Lemme see if I can get Jonathan in on this one.

Thanks for all your help.

Oh and on mat it's actually a good thing that they come in an 8 ohm version because i can wire them in parallel to get a 4 ohm load and bridge the amplifier to get 100 watts per mid.

The amp is benched at 217x2 at 4 ohms bridged.

I forgot about that. I guess I'll just get another 2 channel amp for the tweets then. Thanks for bringing it up.
