If so I wouldn't worry about trying to find 6x9 components. In fact you might consider not spending ANY money on your rear stage and forget having highs playing back there. It can really screw up your sound stage. As far as brand recommendations for the 6 1/2's I'm sure there are a lot of people here who could suggest something in your price range. A $400 dollar set of components up front will generally sound better than $400 worth of front and rears, unless of course you're simply need more volume. If you're looking to keep up with a lot of bass and don't care about your sound stage go for it. Remember, however, you're gonna have to power those rear speaks with something as well. Losing an extra amp will allow you to spend even more money on your front stage. I guess it realy comes down to personal preference. If you're an SPL guy go with two sets of highs. I'm into SQ and think the front stage is the first and best place to invest your money. -Fishy |
Silver Member Username: MendonmafiaUSA Post Number: 242 Registered: Aug-06 | well my car has nine factory speaker locations with tweerers in the rear doors, front sails and in the dash(center speaker) the ones located in the rear doors are located near the the back of the front seats. so i really would like to keep thoes locations filled because i know that i am hearing alot of sound from thoes 2 rear door tweeters becasue they are so close to my head. but i am and SQ guy ,but i figure that when my car is running i am going to hear random noises from my engin and road noise anyways so i really dont need perfection because i will still have so imperfection dude to the factors i just mentioned and due to ratteling from my subs(minimal at this point but still affects SQ). but i do want realtively high SQ speakers to put in these locations so that the sound output is clean and correct but it does not have to be flawless. also i want to replace my amp any ways because my factory amp has fixed crossover settings and i dont like where they are set at and because i know that a new amp will generate a better output signal. So does anybody have any suggestions for the 6x9 and 6.5 comp sets for no more than $400 for both sets? |

I have yet to hear anything that compares. Didn't play very low freair but could reproduce incredible kick drum hits. Been searchin for that kinda upper bass/midbass ever since. Couldn't find a pic, but they were the two way version of these: http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLT595 If the guy isn't conecrened about staging I'm sure he won't care what shape his drivers are. I think he'd be happy with a good set of 6x9's if he can find any. The larger cone area can equate to much more efficiency, just don't expect anything miraculous. R&D is centered on round components these days. No ones ever gonna make another 6x9 like that JBL. Here's a pic from the catalog: http://i20.ebayimg.com/03/i/01/ab/88/b4_1_b.JPG Up front I ran the 6 1/2's you see to the left of the 6x9 two-ways off another Yamaha amp with no sub(dedicated subwoofers were scarcer than hen's teeth). Talk about a crappy soundstage, but dayum was it loud for its day. -Fishy |

The T545 was the three way version of what I had. It just didn't have the midbass response the two ways did. All that coaxial tweeter stuff got in the way. I guess we oughta look for some good 6x9's for this guy. Anybody know of any? -Fishy |
Gold Member Username: FishyTamarac Ft.Laud, FL USA Post Number: 1590 Registered: Sep-04 | I asked around CAC about 6x9's and the consensus seems to be of those three you said you checked out the Massives would probably be your best bet. http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/SFV/30046/vpid/266685 2/vpcsid/0/rid/118099 The are going in the front right? If not I'd hate to see you waste money on something that you're not going to hear "correctly" anyways. -Fishy |
