how would you find the voltage to set the gains at...would it be sqrt(2500 x 2) for a kx2500.1?

depending on what your listening to the most. if its rap use a rap cd, that way if you dont set it up for songs with less bass and then when you play rap it could be distorted....make sence? set your deck for what sounds good with your speakers then set your amp.

nice idea, but every CD is recorded at a different reference level, unfortunately, so one may sound louder tahn another from a different label.
This is why I use a pink noise generator to tune the system.

IASCA has a reference CD that has a pink noise track. that works very well.
pink noise is just a signal delivering the same power to every frequency from 20-20KHz. It sounds like static, like a TV station with no broadcasting. C weighted curve pink noise takes into account the "curve" for human hearing, so the audible signal to the human ear sounds even across the spectrum, even though it actually isn't equal power throughout. It's an inversed bell-curve.

bcae1.com has guides for setting amplifier gains. several in fact, if I recall.

oops, I meant to say "inverted" not "inversed"

ok i have kx2500 so the gain should be sqrt(2500 x 2) for a kx2500.
70.7v <--- correct? but question. ive got my kx2500 to 2 15" l7s which are 1000rms with both total is 2000rms should i caculate my gain at 2000rms thats the subs or 2500rms the amps specs. i dont want to overpower the subs. i am just a little confused on which to set the gain by the amps specs or the subs rms because the amp can handle both subs rms

^^^^^ X2

With the build quality of L7s as bad as it is, I wouldn't put any more than their rated power on them.
