I hooked up all the cables properly and still no power to the amp??? could the rem being hooked to the wrong thing cause this?

yes. You need a switched 12 volt source. Should be blue wire of hu. Or just find a wire thats hot when the key is turned on. Cig lighter? then stick it in the fuse panel with a fuse on it.
