i thought free air was when you mounted the speakers like in the rear seat or rear deck and used the trunk as a enclosure and seal it off real good?

i have heard jl w3's in my moms cavalier free aired cuz me n my step dad hooked it all up and were working on getin teh box built and i just couldnt wait any longer so i played them without teh box. imo i thought they didnt get half as loud as they ddi in the box, and they flexed wayy ezier , so i dont think it is anyhtign speacial kinda pointless but maybe it is a way to break in your sub if you think about it..

there is a big difference between free air and infinite baffle

IB enclosures separate the front and back waves getting rid of cancellation, but there is no real enclosure per say.

free air is well, free air lots of cancellation

and if a sub isnt designed for IB use dont use it for that

IB systems in HT are very effective, I just wouldn't try it in a car, for my own reasons. I would love to have the space for one at home just for the experience. It's just such a huge commitment in time, $$, and planning.

If you haven't seen it, check out this guys HT sub using (4) 15" Mags and 3200w.
