So i just bought a monster of a sub and am intimidated at the thought of building my own enclosure.

The manual talks about really specific tuning specs and port size and I'm wondering if I can just say screw it and throw the sub in some box I buy online and it will be all good.

I dont plan on goin to competitions so I dont really care about getting the most out of the sub.

I just dont want distortion.

prefab boxes really suck. even if not trying to win comps a prefab is still not the way to go. i'd say go to a car audio store and have them make one for you if you can't make it yourself, or there's people here that could make one for you at a good price.

For a tighter budget, look at Imortal Box Building - logan116600@hotmail.com
Email him with the specs of the box you need.

For sealed enclosures, all that needs to be correct is the volume - as in it needs to be within the manufacturer's spec? Is it then ok to buy a prefab sealed box if it's the right volume?

If you find a prefab sealed enclosure with the right volume, it will sound fine. But, if it is cheap/poorly constructed, it will flex and resonate. With a stroker, I would want a rather sturdy box.
