Ok so today my buddy came over and he knows a pretty good amount about car audio and i thought my JBL amp was a mono channel but he told me that it was a two channel because it had 4 outputs and i was plannin on buying two 12 type r's dual 2 ohm but now that i realized that my amp is a two channel and the channels will need to be bridged does this mean that i will need to get the dual 4ohms or does this matter will someone explain this to me.

I just looked at it and it is the BP1200.1 which means its a mono channel amp right.

yes its a mono amp which puts out 1200 watts at 2 ohms and at 1 ohm. Thats a nice amp by the way. JBL doesn't make them like that any more. You can get either the dual 4 ohms and run them at 1 ohm or the dual 2 ohms and run them at 2 ohms is your choice.

you can get either with that amp. It puts out the same power at 2 ohms and 1 ohm.

it doesn't matter. I would get the dual 4's and run it at 1 ohm off that amp and if you decide to do just 1 later you can run it at 2 ohms, or run them both at 4 ohms off another amp. I would do the dual 4's

Most amps are more efficient at higher ohm loads, meaning the amp would draw less current from your electrical system.

that amp puts out the SAME amount of power at 2 ohms as it does at 1 ohm. It draws the same amount of current at 1 ohm as it does at 2 ohms. It will get just as hot at 1 ohm as it does at 2 ohms. I think this should clear things up.
