Post Number: 908 Registered: Oct-06 | Only thing still awaiting delivery is my HU, hopefully it'll come in the next couple days so i can get started. I've come a long way thanks to this forum but since i still have no actual INSTALL experience, i'm confused on a couple things. Now that i actually have my amp kit and i'm looking at the speaker wire, i understand you gotta strip em so the actual wire is exposed but then when you slip it into like the voice coil or then into the box terminals, how do you get the wire to stay put? There are some little parts in the amp kit that i can't figure out the use of, so i'm hoping the answer is simply use something the kit has. Also i'ma run my power wire from the amp to the battery on one side of the car, run my ground from amp to ground in back. On the other side of the car do i run RCA from amp to HU, AND speaker wire from amp to HU on that side? or only one or the other?? still a lil confused. thanks in advance p.s. anyone who doesn't already have me on AIM who might like to help with my install, i am: goofypitbull |

The amp should have screws of ssome sort to keep the wire in..... |

Post Number: 909 Registered: Oct-06 | okay "remote" wire is just another term for the 12gauge speaker wire i'll be using correct? and it looks like maybe the screws you reffered to were maybe screwed all the way in for shipping (i bought the amp used)....but i don't understand what kinda tool i'd need to get em in and out...sure as hell ain't a screwdriver. thanks |

Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 480 Registered: Nov-04 | I think the tool you're referring to is an Allen Wrench. Remote wire is NOT speaker wire. Remote is a low current trigger that connects from HU to amp and tells the amp when the HU is on so the amp can turn on. You'll see that connection on the amp between the ground and power connections. M&M actually meant to disconnect the positive lead from the battery, the negative needs to remain connected. Always remember to connect ground first and disconnect last. |

The tool used is most likly a hex, aka allen wrench. if you dont have a set go out and get one as they are very useful in car audio. the remote wire is the wiring thats going to run from the remote wire of your HU to the remote input on your amp (usually found right next to the power and ground inputs on the amp) this tells your amp to turn on when the car is turned on and your HU turns on, telling your amp to turn on. (btw the wire that tells your HU to turn on is the ACC wire) I'm confused about that you said with the VCs and stuff.... I'll do a brief overview of all the wire connections.... Battery- is this a battery with ig lead "nubs" or with a screw down terminal. this will determine the battery terminals you need. the screw down is much cheaper. the screw down terminals look like a flat piece of metal with a hole in the middle to alow the bolt to go through. the nub style has a much larger terminal. this would be tightened down onto the nub most likely using a hex. these terminals are attached to the end of the wire that meets the battery. the screw down style are usually crimped onto the wire and the other style is usually screwed in with a hex. the other end of the wire is connected to the proper input on the amp of course. ok ive already covered the remote wire. the speaker wires will go fromt he correct output of the amp to the speaker terminal on the box if you have one (idk if your usuing terminals or drilling holes in the box) speaker terminals are one of many things. spring loaded, push down and a hole appears, insert wire and let go, done. screw down, loosen it up, inster wire, and screw 'er down, done. switch- there is a little switch on it and when one way it is loose and another tight, find that out and insert the wire, then switch it to tight, done. and lastly, i forget what you call it but its like a little flat piece of metal. that is the "male" end. you need the correct size in the "female" connection. you can find these at any hardware store. you crimp these onto the wire and then put the "male" end into the "female" end if you get what im saying lol. on the back of the terminal you will find one of these things as well, do the same. on the ub you will find one as well, do the same there too. make sure you wire it correctly, there are many places to check online. www.rockfordfosgate.com has one. go to support and then wiring wizard. lastly im confused on "speaker wire from amp to HU on that side" speaker wires dont go from the amp to the HU. if your only runnign a sub amp they will only go to the sub. if you have aftermarket speakers and amp then the other amp will power those speakers separately. if this i your first install, and being that you dont know what a hex is I'm assuming you dont have any mechanical backround your gong to have trouble. but thats okay everyone does. just double check everything and stick with it. as for getting through the firewall of your car. try finding an already existing rubber boot that you can make a nice little slice (but becareful of existing wires) and slip it through. it would be very advantageous to invest in a wire-puller-througher. lol i dont know the official name. but this method is much easier than drilling through the firewall. |

Post Number: 911 Registered: Oct-06 | http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK4 this is the amp kit i have^^^...it comes with a 5 meter RCA cable with "built in turn on lead", i'm thinking that IS the remote wire right? also i have ZERO car audio install exp. but that doesn't mean i don't know what an allen wrench is lol, i've used em' alot. When looking at the lil amp connectors the holes are round but when i look closer now i can see down in there the lil edges for an allen wrench to fit. when i thought they were round i was like htf do i get them out? first two pics are the ground and power connections on my EDnine.1 from side view and then top view. Last pic is of the box terminal from the INSIDE of my box. Connecting the wires to the voice coils and the OUTSIDE of the box terminal will be easy cuz they have the lil push things to expose the hole, and then they clamp down themselves. But i'm not 100% sure how to connect the speaker wires inside the box. Hope the pic is okay (cell phone cam) |

Silver Member Username: PitbullguyChicago, Illinois I Eats Beats... Post Number: 913 Registered: Oct-06 | btw i am not doing components or 2nd amp this time around. because A. it's my 1st install so i don't wanna complicate things more and B. I like the way my jeeps infinity comps/amp sound with an aftermarket HU (i've heard other ppls) |
Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 488 Registered: Nov-04 | You'll need to get little end connectors, not sure what they're called, but they slide right on those metal pieces for a perfect fit. |
Silver Member Username: PitbullguyChicago, Illinois I Eats Beats... Post Number: 914 Registered: Oct-06 | could any of these be the lil connectors for the inside of the box terminal?? grabbed my phone to take a pic of these pieces from my amp kit and saw this lil kodak moment^^ |
Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 489 Registered: Nov-04 | nope, none of those are it But these are!.. |
Gold Member Username: Tdeaton1021Near Tampa, Florida USA Post Number: 3893 Registered: Sep-04 | yup^ you have the male end and you need to get the female end (pictured above). and just an FYI. you dont have to say "connect to the voice coil" because you are, but you arent. your connecting them to the speaker terminal which is connected to the speaker lead which is connected to the voice coil lol. you can just say connect the speaker. your picture of misc parts are batery terminals (the big ones) and speaker wire terminals (smaller ones. you can connect the little ones to the wire going to the speakers at the output on the amp (the end of the wire going into the amp) |
Silver Member Username: PitbullguyChicago, Illinois I Eats Beats... Post Number: 915 Registered: Oct-06 | you sure it couldn't be those ones i took the pic of? the wires in your pic look pretty small and my speaker wire is 12gauge, maybe different for bigger wire? I mean it seems to me like they would include what i need in my amp kit (see link below). Anyone else got any ideas? http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK4 btw i'm not tryin to argue w/ you lol. just trying to get to the bottom of this. GREATLY appreciate everyon who's helping me. |
Silver Member Username: PitbullguyChicago, Illinois I Eats Beats... Post Number: 916 Registered: Oct-06 | blah! so then where can i get the female pieces i need? (fu<k u knukonceptz) |
Silver Member Username: OlegSanta Monica, CA USA Post Number: 490 Registered: Nov-04 | I think those usually come with subs or boxes? Or you can go to a local stereo shop with that picure in your hand lol |
Gold Member Username: AdddisorderWest palm, Florida Post Number: 3553 Registered: Jan-06 | go to homedepot or an auto part store and ask for female spade terminals |
Bronze Member Username: WhitewidowIL Post Number: 35 Registered: Oct-06 | Can always solder..not too difficult, and always useful. Great connection that won't bump off if its not a perfect fit. |
Silver Member Username: PitbullguyChicago, Illinois I Eats Beats... Post Number: 919 Registered: Oct-06 | probly won't try soldering this time around, like i said i wanna keep things as simple as possible. |
