Midbass can be anything from 80 to 500 hz depending on how your X-overs are set. Midbass drives are mounted up front sice the sound they produce is more directional than bass.

What do you guys think about using 8s the back along with a 12 or 15 for extra midbass? Anyone do that or believe it works well?

like M.S. said, you want the mid bass up front. anything above 70hz would sound much better coming from the front.

ex....look at the 3 way comp sets. it comes with mid bass, mid, and high. you don't install the mid bass in the rear.

a midbass its considering a small t0 mid subwoofer that their main range of frequesnsys are from 100hz-400hz or so somtimes x overs tend to let the midbass handle the 600hz frequensis but are its not good to runthose frequensisi on drivers like that.

This time Chad nailed it.

Except that I have heard of better results using 8" subs up front as midbass drivers, with 2 way component sets.

yes but i have a six way crossover that i want to use for the front speakers. i know the midbass goes up front. i got the place picked out for them. and i do not want to buy 3 way comps because i love me speakers now. and they are rare. i just want to add some more "something" up front.

OK...I think Killa was talking about putting some 8s in the back for extra midbass punch so I was just curious.

if you are gonna use a 8inch sub for mid bass up front, all i gotta say is deaden the sh!t out of the location where you are going to mount it.

if you can get your hands on a jl audio 8w3 it would work. my friend has a pair of those subs and it sounds good with upper bass frequencies.

You would need 2, one for each side. Stereo. But unless you have A LOT of space in your front doors or somewhere, 8s ain't gonna work real well...

The installations I have seen done that way were highly custom jobs with lots of custom fabrication...

That wouldn't sound good if it's being used for midbass. The higher the frequency, the more directional it is. Having a mono midbass in the center and stereo components to the sides would completely screw up the stereo imaging...

The 6.5 inch Ascendant Audio mid drivers are nice. I use them for rear fill.

Well if you're gonna use 6.5s all you need is a 6.5" component set...
