i got a crap alpine 350 watt rms amp to power my 2 12"kicker compvr's. is this enough so that it can push out all power on the 400rms subs a piece or do i need to get a new one and which 1 can u help.
If your amp does 350 rms then ull gonna want a new amp cause ur subs take 300 rms a piece(600 total). If your subs are dvc's then look for an amp that does 600 rms at 4 ohms. if you have single voice coil's then look for something that does 600 at 2 ohms. Some good brands are kicker, alpine, rockford, and directed.(ebay is cheapest)
if they're dual 4 ohm, look for 800-1000w rms at 1 ohm. One example is hifonics bxi 1206d. Since alpine is cr4p for you, try getting a memphis MCD1000d
that's not a 350w amp. It's actually a pretty nice 600w amp, and a little under-rated.
It WOULD make a decent amp for those subs, but it works best running a 2 ohm load, which is where it produces 600w. With your pair of DVC 4's you can only get a 1 or 4 ohm load which is why it makes sense to look for an amp that's 600-800w at 1 ohm.
You should be able to sell that amp on ebay for $150 or more if its in pretty good shape. That will cover a good portion of a quality ~800w 1 ohm amp.
"that's not a 350w amp. It's actually a pretty nice 600w amp, and a little under-rated."
How under-rated? I couldn't really find any good reviews on them. I just picked one up for my brother along with a type r 12 and I'm curious to know how they'll match up
don't worry about going over. Worry about not having enough. If you have too much, just keep the gain or volume down on the amp. Most amp ratings are at 14.4v anyways, which it probably won't see very often if ever. So it's good to have a bit extra.
