Silver Member Username: BlazerboyPost Number: 262 Registered: Jun-06 | Hey guys, Do you think it would be worth it to get a flatwind($20) or copper($5) coil on a 15" Fi SSD? I know the copper coild is a nice little SQ booster, and for $5 how can you go wrong? Im not exactly sure what the flatwind does, so if somebody could explain that to me, as well as recomend it or not, it would be grand. Thanks. |

Copper coil adds a little more bottom end to things in the SSD. It changes the drivers specs (as copper is less resistive than aluminum and signifcantly heavier) allowing it to be rn in smaller enclosures. For the SSD, it is a little louder down low and somewhat smoother than the standard aluminum coils. |

Silver Member Username: BlazerboyPost Number: 264 Registered: Jun-06 | Haha alright, looks like i'll add them on. Plus being able to say Fi SSD fully loaded is worth the $25 alone! When you say " It changes the drivers specs" It will still run at dual 2 correct? Thanks, and sorry for that last noob question! |

Silver Member Username: BlazerboyPost Number: 266 Registered: Jun-06 | So if the money is avalible, there is no reason not to get them? What could the downfalls be...if any? |
Gold Member Username: Nyyfan13Fi SSD USA Post Number: 3508 Registered: Jul-06 | get the flatwind...adds more power handling to your sub...most people end up getting the flatwind with theirs... you cant get both the copper and the flatwind...its one of the other, id get the flatwind |
Silver Member Username: BlazerboyPost Number: 267 Registered: Jun-06 | why is it one or the other? Just can't do it? Or not recomended? The SQ should be fine on them, so I will likely get the the flatwind anyway. |
Gold Member Username: Nyyfan13Fi SSD USA Post Number: 3513 Registered: Jul-06 | its the coil...you either get the copper coil or the flatwind coil...just cant |
Silver Member Username: Adam_s15 TC9 Hybrid, RE MT Softparts Post Number: 632 Registered: Aug-04 | I would say flatwound. Cant really go wrong with extra power. |

Gold Member Username: Denali_on_22sSSX, Tenneki US of A Post Number: 1376 Registered: Feb-06 | just saw your other thread. go with the copper. you only have 800 (or probably less) to give it anyways. Not to mention that 8000v is not stable down to 1 ohm so you will need either a new amp or to get a dual 1 ohm sub. |
Silver Member Username: BlazerboyPost Number: 271 Registered: Jun-06 | Yea, only 800RMS for now, but I will be upgrading to 1000 or so in the near future. What do you mean I will need a new amp? If I get a dual 2, I can wire it in a series like this... http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/4954/wiringrp7.png ...right? |
Gold Member Username: Denali_on_22sSSX, Tenneki US of A Post Number: 1378 Registered: Feb-06 | look at the link you just posted. With a dual two ohm sub you can get a 1 ohm or a 4 ohm load. your amp will only be putting out 400 watts at 4 ohms. get a one ohm stable amp or buy a dual 1 ohm sub. |
