I'd like to spend the least amount of money that I can, but if it comes down to it, $200 is the max I'm willing to.

so, http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&tab=essential_info&i=575P3251

or

those amps are not going to work david. You need 300w rms at 4 ohms for that sub.

Try getting a pg xenon 400.1

try that for 220 + ship
but you are not going to get a good amp to power that for 200 price, plus remember you have to buy the box + amp kits... (common mistakes in noob budgets, not sayiing that you are one, just in case)

Good thing I asked then! Better to overpower as I can see! JL Audio's site has a little graph showing min, max, and recommended RMS wattages of the amp for the W3 and I gaged which amp solely on the 'safe' zone numbers, of coarse being a bit conservative number wise to save some dough. Plus I heard RF underrates wattage.

I have all the sub, box, and wiring expenses dialed into my cart at Crutchfield and its gonna be around $600+ depending on which amp I choose.

No real spending limit here but the less it is the faster I get it. It would be stupid to sacrifice great tweak ability, reliability and advantages just because I want it a couple weeks earlier, so I'll save up some more.

For a better quality amp, how much would I be lookin at? I am the type of person who despises crappy components and loves tweak ability so if it means saving up for for a better unit, I will.

Yes, I'm new to car audio, but defiently NOT new to electronics and computers. I don't have bad ears and can tell cheap speakers and subs from quality-unlike my dad

Thanks guys!

if you are looking for a quality (highend) amp, you will be spending much more... the JBL, RF, Kicker are good amps, but not the best, they do the job they are assing too. there is a list called "good badand ugly" at car audio central so you can see wath things are rated overall good in everything from HU to speakers. here is the link
http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=7

also you may want to shop around a little more, not only at crutchfield, they are good, but they overprice they products sometimes the great thing about them is that they send you detail instrucstions on how to install everything for your. try www.sonicelectronix.com and www.techronics.com between others.

Johnny, thats a little much right now for my first real system and first car (although I'd spend it if I could), but I appreciate the offer.

why, thanks again for your directed response to my questions. I looked at that good bad and ugly list and that has helped me a lot. I'm going to look past those brands on the questionable side and below, but how would lets say this amp do? $200, ~450w RMS, Infinity http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=108R611A&s=0&cc=01

I will be doing some more research in the next few days on this topic to see what I can afford and how long it will take to pay for it, but 200 or 250 seems like a price where I can get something solid that will last.

* Do not want it dieing in 2 yrs
* When turned up or pushed to it's limit wont flinch (distortion, overheating, killing it!)
* Fairly tweakable with basic H/L Pass Filters and a clip light.

no porblem im doing my best... :D

well i have hear good thing about infinity and i dont think it will heatup that much (every amp heats at some point) it will be an okay starting amp. but dont expect greatness out of it, great ness will be only achieve with a memphis, jl aufio, to name a few the thing that you have to expect from this amp is that it will do the job.
