i got a guy that wants to trade even on my orion and im really thinking about it. Its only been hooked up for testing. I am working on gettin a mustang and building a SQL system for that so this amp would be great. Do you think this is a deal?
id say nope. the sundowns are only great because they can drop to .25 ohms that the greatest about them so id say no u can get some brax or helix or a jlaudio 100/1 or a phoenix 1200.1 that will outperform the sound quality of that sundown

If i was after a SPL score and wanted high numbers, OF COURSE I would take the Orion. But from the stuff I have heard I'm pretty sure the build quality would beat the Orion.
oh im almost positive the sundown would own the orion in quality..and the power diffrence would not be as big as u would think...the new orions are overrated..i think the 2500d does something like 2300 something.....new orion amps sux imo...not on par with memphis, kicker, ed, etc...
no matter what these ppl say i would trade the orion for a sundown! i had a orion 25000 2500wrms and it seemed like my crossfire vr1000d puts out more bass daily for music but 2.5db less for burps.
1- 85% of people set their orion amps up incorrectly! they are very touchy and picky, and have a VERY SENSITIVE potentiometer (POT) it almost wants you to turn it to .75-100 to get good output. and they really like line drivers!
2 - expecting 2500rms on a stock or fairly simple charging system anything under 250amps with a orions 2500d is really funny! 1 orion 2500d can pull as much as 200a by it self, not too mention running the vehicle. also these amps like 2 batteries each!
3 - the build quality is very decent, I bet the sundown is alot stronger build quality! but hey, you cant go wrong with DEI, thats like saying a PPI amps dont sound good or is built cheap!?!? problems Ive heard is the board flexing, if not mounted correctly, but can be fixed easily.
goin def, a orion amp is stable at .5ohm DAILY, I know this, cause Ive done it for along time! the newer amps are also .5 daily, and really isnt much difference, except the new case, and a lil more protection. for comps, these things will burp the entire competition @ .35 ohms or so for 10 secs.
richard, I have used, and installed many corssfires 1000d. and it does way more than 1K... its actually a cheater amp. very good products! I think it your case, your charging system just likes to feed that amp better.
CB, wsup man?? you keep changing your name bro.. IA 20.1 is what I would pic also, or maybe the 40.1 lol
but to the original question, if your going for a sq competition, then the sundown might be better choice, I never really used 1 yet. the orion is just brutal power when you feed it. but you can tune anything to sound good.

Goin Deaf is a buddy of mine. Yesterday while we were watching the NC State/UNC Game, he was telling me that he is going for smaller setup in his mustang, that's why he is willing to trade his Orion for the Sundown. He has 4 DD1012's right now and he's going to a 1/2 sub setup, and he figured 1500watts+ is about the range he'll be using. So it's not like he's downgrading or anything, just trying to go smaller!
Ill be the 90yr old in the suv, bassracing in the streets, doing about 155dbs!! I will have to turn it up loud enuff so I can hear... but I will feel my chest pounding..
goin deaf if you drop the price on those subs they might sell. arnt you asking like 130+shipping or somehting...but id just keep the orion and if you want to run less power then use it at 2ohm not 1. and if you ever want to do comps or just be loud as hell youll still have a big amp
