Gold Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 1089 Registered: Mar-04 | you can't just set it at 5v by the dial and expect to get the best performance. 1) you don't know if the HU ACTUALLY produces 5v w/o clipping. 2) if it does it's probably only dynamically 3) it isn't difficult to set your gains for exactly the amount of power you want the speaker being driven to see 4) read this http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63933 |
Silver Member Username: Holt_champHtown, MI Post Number: 470 Registered: Oct-06 | ok so i did (2500wrm x 2ohms)=5000 sqrt(5000)=70.7v how does that match the head unit is what i dont understand. should i just set it at 70.7 volts and call it good?? cuz if that is all i have to do then i dont want to bother with understanding it. i just want it to be right. thank you guys. |

Turn the HU up to the loudest you ever listen at (the idea is to get maximum unclipped voltage at the pre-amp outputs, the rule of thumb is about 3/4 volume), measure the voltage at the amps speaker output and adjust the gain to ~71v. Shut down the HU, reconnect the sub. Now you know your amp will reach 2500w (when the music demands it) w/o clipping. That's really all there is to it. |

Gold Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 1100 Registered: Mar-04 | if it's for full range spkrs you do the same procedure but use a 1000hz tone. You only need to measure one channel since the gain controls them both. |
