Ite, I started building my box last weekend and I got the bottom, back, sides and port put together... I sat the top on the box and tried to put it in my trunk, and as you guessed it was an 1/8th of an inch too big... My dad did the cuts for me and when I measured it out, the height was 16 1/8" lol. That 1/8 made it too big for the trunk... Im going to put the top on the box and screw it down and if i need to possibly cut it down. What should I use to mark and cut out the mounting hole for the sub? It wont be here for a week but I want to go ahead and get everything put together. The sub is the 15" Mag and has a 14" cut out diameter. Also, how should I seal the top after I get it on because the walls from the port are in the way?

you can
1.) Put a nail in the center and tie an 9 inch string to the nail and a pencil to where its down 2 7 inches and just go in a circle
or
2) same as above but instead...buy a crappy wooden ruler...drive a nail in the ruler at the 2 inch mark and drill a hole around the 8 inch mark, put pencil in an go around

Find the center of the area you want to put the sub at. If its 20" go to 10". Make sure its center both ways. Top/bottom, side/side. Once you have the mark in the center, get a small, thin stick, (I use paint mix sticks) Put a small nail thru the stick into the center of the marks. Now if you sub cut out is 14", then measure 7" from the nail, put another nail thru the stick, but not into the box, Then just turn the stick 360 degrees draging the nail to make a nice circle. You should see the scratch mark well enough but I go over mine with a pencil then cut it out with a jig saw. As far as sealing it. Just reach in the opening asfter you cut out the sub hole. Also, you could just use caulk on the edges of the box then drop the top down on it sealing it tight.

Where the funk would you get a 14" compass?
Sure if I made boxes all the time I would invest in a router guide. But for the weekend builder A 1 off "get er done" contraption will work. There probly a hundred ways to do it. This is my way.
^^^^ does it with a string or a ruler. I sometimes just invert the sub where I want it, Trace around it, then just cut 1/2 inch back from the line.

Take the right panel off, The one on the right in your pic. Then use a skilsaw and trim 1/8 off the top, back, bottom. Reinstall the side. Aslong as you can get the side panel out you will be ok.

And that compass thing, lol yea, you only need a 7 inch spead. wtf was I thinking?

my Upload is showing....

the belt sander will take forever and will be hard to make it come out even but it would work.
it makes me laugh just thinking about someone useing a belt sander for that.
