Amp to power Factory speaks?

I have a newer Toyota Tundra. I would like to get better quality sound when playin' CDs, etc. Stopped by a local car audio shop that recommended an 2 channel amp off the factory head unit. I'd very much like to keep all the seating, so I'd be limited in space to the underside of drivers side and passenger side seats. Thus a 2x200 is about as big of an amp as I could fit. The fella mentioned Eclipse and Arc-Audio as his recommendations for Amps. Price range is around $400 installed, so around $300 for the amp itself.

Are the factory speakers even capable of handling that much extra power?
Arc-Audio or Eclipse (or something else)?
Would an aftermarket 50x4 (Eclipse or Pioneer probably )head unit accomplish the same goal?

adding a aftermarket head unit will make your speakers sound a little better but if the factory speakers are cheap fillers just so they can say u got speakers i'd just get some aftermarket cds because with the amp on a factory head unit your gonna have to get a line output convertor (LOC) and amps on ebay and sites such as www.woofersetc.com and www.sonicelectronix.com have much cheaper stuff versus a dealer.

And it's really a Christmas present for my dear ol' dad . . . And I'm just as big of a procrastinator as the next guy, so I'll very likely need to get this done at a car audio dealer in the neighborhood.

Their prices for
Eclipse CD4000 $350
Eclipse CD3000 $275 (this is the one I was lookin' at, I used to have one myself)

Arc-Audio 2x200W @ 4 Ohm (I think) $300

Should I post this again in the HU discussion?

would not put a 2 channel in unless you know th ohm load on those speakers, I would run a 4 channel amp to them. i can get you a nice memphis 4 channel for less then that.

Allegedly (according to the car audio shop) the Speakers are 4 ohm variety . . . thus in a parallel config they'd be givin' a 2 Ohm resistance. I'm also fully aware that fairly high quality products can be had for significantly less than the dealers prices, except the shipping would kill any sort of bargain. (i.e. next day/2 day delivery would cost well in excess of the difference in price.)

Should I just go with a decent head unit (eclipse CD3000) now and get an amp/speakers later, or go with an amp now and get the head unit/speakers later?

you can not tell what ohm, they are making a basic assumption, but you really do not know until the speaker is out, my nissan had 2 ohm speakers in it, my pontiac had 8 ohm.

ah, quite.

I'll probably go with a head unit, if for nothing else for the placebo effect. (he'll be able to see the difference, heh).

Now the question is Eclipse CD-3000 or Pioneer 7800/780 . . .

Listen to the others, get a decent HU.
Stock stereos with aftermarket amps almost defeats the purpose. I was running my 05 taco with the stock unit for about a month, and the damn amp would stay on whenever the truck was on. You could not turn it off even when the HU was off. I barely had to use my heater all of december 04 (RF's punch line gets hot when left on all day). That's what linux gets you. I'm not even going to go into how much sound quality was lost.

On the bright side, newer yotas actually have decent speaks, loud enough to hurt your ears before they max out, rather than the previous generation's paper cones. At least they're better than some duals or whatever best buy is pushing these days.
You won't need to switch them out unless you really want to. An aftermarket HU will prolly get the job done a lot easier than an amp, but it's all in how much you want to invest and how you want to fill up your limited space with what kind of amp. I chose to give up my backseat for 2 15's and a monoblock... But that's the sacrifice I had to make. Glad I did.
