Multi battery setup

Post Number: 160 Registered: Jan-06 | -posted in this section because it is much more active- -please post only if you have a multi battery setup or are familiar with how to do it- Setup information: vehicle - 1999 4runner alt - 200 amp excessive amperage underhood battery - 1000 ca wetcell starter amp - ma audio hk4000d wired to 2 ohm big 3 and power/ground for amp done in 1/0 [sytem is a daily driver and will be played only with the car on] I'm going to be adding two exide orbital 34xcd's to the back (very similar to optima yellow top). What equipment, if any, do I need to add the batteries(relay?isolator?). How should I wire all the batteries together(series?parallel?)? How do I connect my amp to the batteries? |

Also, where should I fuse(I already have the one close to underhood battery positive), do I need any more? What about additional equipment like a relay or an isolator? I've been told of different batteries fighting each other. And thanks for the quick response! |

All I have to do for the amp ground is ground it to the negative battery terminal correct? What about additional equipment like a relay or an isolator? What should I do to prevent the batteries from fighting? All that you guys have mentioned is an isolater, but what about a relay? That is what my installer recommend I use, but I wanted to hear some more opinions. Also, I'm still not sure what the differences are between a relay and an isolator. What everyone probaly means is that, don't have two deepcycles different brands and differenat amps and then also have one lead acid battery and so forth. Two yellows and one red will be fine. |

Gold Member Username: BernymacCambodian Post Number: 1409 Registered: Sep-04 | Yes it will work geez lmao. Don't forget the fuses from batt to amp. Also, you wouldn't need a second fuse next to the second batt if your sure no pos won't hit any neg. but just do it for safety reasons. |

I'm doing two runs of 0awg positive wire from the front batt to the two back batteries. Grounding all batteries to the chassis. Theres two fuse holders 16inches away from the front batt, one fuse holder for each 0 awg pos wire. Now, I'm also doing fuses from the last battery to the amps. And yes you need a fuse between battery and amp to be safe, unless you have a lot of money and don't care about blowing up your amp for some certain reasons its best you have a fuse from the last batt to amp. Ground is ground so go ahead and ground each battery individually for shortest return path. Doesn't matter where you ground, as long as its a good clean ground no paint all metal. So sand the area down. |
