Sound Quality Using Ipod on Alpine CDA-9831?

So i was wondering, i've got an Alpine CDA-9831 HU and i feel like getting an Ipod for it. I know i will need the adaptor(KCA-420i) for the ipod to use it.

My question is.. how is the sound quality when using the Ipod thru the HU? Is it lousy? Will it be really noticeable?

Second question, Will the HU itself be processing the sound separate from the Ipod..or will it basically be the Ipod making the sounds and just passing it along through the HU?

Any info is appreciated

i'd think it would sound the same as on the ipod because i believe that adaptor allows you to control your ipod through the headunit while keeping the sound quality. not sure though

I havent done alot of reading on the subject. But from this article i found on Crutchfield, the adaptor supposedly "tricks" the HU into recognizing the Ipod as a CD changer.

If that is true, then the sound processing should still be done on the HU itself.. hopin someone here can verify this

Sound quality is very good though I'm not sure if processing is done through the deck or not. There does tend to be a bit of lag in conrol when it comes to changing tracks and such and the controls on the deck for iPod interface can be a bit tricky to get used to since they're (obviously) nothing like the ones on the iPod itself. Also the controls on the iPod lock whenever they're connected to the adapter.

For an alternate solution, you can check out the aux-in adapter. It's cheaper but does not allow for control using the deck and offers no sound processing other than the options on the iPod itself. I have yet to find an iPod interface (from Alpine, Pioneer, or Kenwood) that I like and use an Aux-in cable to connect the iPod to my Kenwood DVD unit and just use the iPod itself for control. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply Darek, it had some info i found insightful.

Ah.. can anyone recommend me an alternative then? Basically, what i want to do is use something sortof like a thumbdrive. Store music on it, plug into HU and play. Without changing to another HU or connecting a laptop :-(
