ok i have 2 12 rockford hx2's and an orion 1200d on them, my question is, can the box tuning cause the amp to clip in situation, for an example i can turn on like a song with a certain type of beat and it will clip like eveyr minute, i have the gain a little less than half, i have a 4volt hu, like i said, in certain songs it will clcip, but then i can like thrown the lil jon cd in and absolutly no clipping at all no matter how long i play it for, i do have a stock 130 altnerator which i was told woudl be alright

"gain a little less than half" - so does that match your hu voltage?

yeah as far i know because my hu is voltage is 4, there are no numbers on my orion 1200d that i notice, so i imagine it prolly goes up to like 10-12 volts if im not mistaken which i prolly am, so i prolly got it set at like 4 1/2

yep, don't just guess, good chance you'll ruin your subs. either do what mat said and get a dmm or take it to a audio shop and have them do it. should be free.

what exactly does a dmm do, just measure the voltage i'm drawing or what?

sensitivity on that amp is 0.2v to 5v.
Theoretically the gain should be somewhere around the 1/4 range, but I've found setting them right (DMM) can give a lot different results than ballparking it.

Voltage at the speaker terminals, and using the sqrt(PxR)=V formula it's pretty simple to set them perfectly.
