Bronze Member Username: WhitewonderPost Number: 20 Registered: Sep-06 | I have $1000 to put into my car for a sound system, going for pretty much pure SQ, but a little bump wouldn't hurt. I drive a 1992 Ford Explorer XLT, which has a 95 Amp, 1425 Watt alternator. I have the premium sound system, which comes with built in 4X15 Watt and an 85 Watt mono in the trunk for a sub (which is blown.) I believe the openings are 5.5"X7.5" in all locations, although some models apparently have a sealed enclosure with 4'' midbass and 1'' tweets, not sure if I have this. I can spend more than $1000, but I would like to keep it within a few hundred dollars. This is for headunit, wiring, comp speakers, and sub. I can build my own box, I just need to know where to get the special parts for the box. |

You are going to need to get new amps. Most of the time a factory amp won't work with an aftermarket HU or speakers. A note about the component speakers: You can take advice from people about what brands are good, but listen to the speakers in a store before you buy them. What someone else thinks sounds good may not sound good to you. |

Bronze Member Username: WhitewonderPost Number: 24 Registered: Sep-06 | I was thinking possibly the CDT CL-51's since they are $150 on woofersetc, but I dunno where I could hear a pair of those too see what they are like. 6.5'' wont fit since its only 5.5'' tall, so I am planning on getting an adapter for 5.5'' round, unless of course, its thats 4'' and 1''thing. I have read that the JL 12W6V2 is one of the best SQ around, but how much better would it be than an Assasin. Big price difference, worth it? |

Bronze Member Username: WhitewonderPost Number: 29 Registered: Sep-06 | Anyone use Q-logic kick panels ever? My main issue with the budget is the fact that I should be getting a new car in a year, and my doors only take 5 1/4'' woofers, but if I get kick panels, I can get 6 1/2'' in there and move them to my next ride. Then my only constraint is my alt, which im told should run about 600-800 watts. Its 95 Amps. |
