i know the driver has lot to do with it.

my question is why would a company choose to use a flat cone? according to them it gives off better sq. i doubt they would do it just for looks.

b/ even on a paper cone, there are variations in the sound waves resonating off of unlevel/rounded/and different density surfaces. the sound caves that come off of a flat cone are all the same supposedly, you shouldn't notice a diff though.

There really isnt a difference when it comes to a subwoofer. The cone acts as a piston if properly designed regardless of actual shape. Flat, curvilinear, straight or odd with all sorts of pressed in shapes that look pretty made out of poly.... it really doesnt matter if it is rigid.

Now for a full range or a speaker playing in a higher passband, cone shape and geometry makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks...

if a cone is rigid it wont distort as bad and the way i look at it is a flat cone is the opposite of distortion so i would say it has better SQ jmho

it also has a flat (off axis) point, which = better control which= better SQ. Now this is all on paper in the natural world? who knows.

the reason i ask is cause be stereo is having a group buy on some flat cone subs for a real low price. i wouldn't mind trying them out.

PPI made a nice flat cone piston sub a few years ago that just never really took off although they sounded fantastic and had terrific output.
