Would a hifonics BX1500D @2 ohms be too powerful for a older 15" JL W3? The original owner of sub said it was an up-graded version that only came in 15" and 18". This sub is rated at 450 watts RMS. Hifonics is rated at 1000 watts @ 2 ohms at 14.4 volts. Anyone know if that is too much power?

ull b ok... i believe the hifonics only does 80% of its rated power.. and even if it did do rated power its only over by 100 watts. so u should b ok :-)

I forgot to say that the sub is a 15"W3D4 (dual 4 ohm)

80% of rated power is 800 watts and thats almost double the wattage. Is this going to blow it?

Yea, but I don't have HO alt so I wouldnt get 14.4 volts. Does anyone know how much the wattage drop is from 14.4 to 12.4 volts?

I only have one. This is a rare sub I have heard. Hard to find a match to run two. I can't run it at 4 ohms because its a dual 4 ohm sub.

500 Watts X 1 @ 4 0HM
1000 Watts x 1 @ 2 Ohms
1500 watts x 1 @ 1 Ohms

With current at 12.4 the amp would produce (after the 16% deducted) approximately 670 watts.
Now is that still too much for this sub. On realmofexcursion.com there is a W0 taking 6 times rated power. I know it won't last long with that much over RMS rated power but this would only be over Rated power by less than 300 watts. Anyone know if that would blow it with every day usage?
