Well, I installed my Memphis 1500 last week powering 1 L7 12" Dvc2, Wired up sub to 4 ohms, amp pushes 750 at 4, Sounds ok right? Well I get in today start driving and i notice the subs not hitting. I pull over check wiring, amp, ground, Everything fine. I turn it up a little more and the sub does some crazy excursion dance for a second and then start playing, but it sounds very weak. I adjust the gain a little, Was on 3/4, and it still sounds like crap. So I leave it alone for a while, and it starts hitting again, but the VC is real hot, and I can smell it cooking. so any ideas? ( I had it on a kenwood X811D running at 1 ohm, and it seemed to hit harder, and run cooler.) I think the sub is on its way out again.
then it has to be the sub or the way u have the sub connected.... could it be possible tht the sub is hitting inward instead of outward...is it outta phase? wen u push down the cone does the sub make a scratchin noise???
Well subs checks out, each VC is 2 ohms and wired to 4 ohms correctly. Shows a 4 ohm load on DMM as well. So I am thinking its the Amp. Anyone else ever had a amp that took a while to work? like 10-15 minutes before it started hitting? Dam used crap. Now Im putting the other amp in to see if that is what the proble is. The thing ran fine until I put that new Memphis amp in.
Gain set at 40 volts with a DMM 1500x1 squared =38.72 There is no BB, Lpf is set for 50, and that wouldnt explain why it takes so long to come on line. It should either work when you turn it on or not. Imagine going to a comp and sitting there with the TL, repeating aloud, "Wait for it, Wait for it, wait for it" Its like the amp needs 15 minutes of "on" time to produce bass. Solution: I listed it for sale on craiglist for $275
Well, its def the amp. I put in my old amp and the sub is fine again. So anybody hear of Memphis amp problems like that before? Dam, I hate when ppl sell crap that is broken. Is there any legal options available I wonder....
