I was reading a persons thread, He just got a new pair of subs and said he had to break them in....Thats new to me... do you need to break in new subs...if so how long??
i find that ANYHTHING ON THE PLANET that has moving parts works better once they have "broken in"
ESPECIALLY like a digital designs subwoofer...people have records of there subs hitting 1 and 2 db's louder after having been broken in for 2 weeks of playing time, even up to a month!!
that really is the rule of thumb to breaking it in....the stiffer the suspension...the longer it takes to break in....thats just the way it is ladies and gents
I just got a new pair of CVR's I took it ez on them for about 3 weeks, now Im putting the power to them. when I touch the back of them( they are in a bandpass box) they are very warm I hope that they are ok...2 CVR 12 Hifonics bxi 1206d
here make it quicker... play the subs free air but control the volume! " for really stiff suspensions i.e. the BTL's i put about 1000 watts free air and thats like 2500 watts in a box. maybe bout an hour. heck those things can take a hell of a BEATING! I use a signal generator with a crown 1000 to do the job... yes u can also use one of the coils to do it... (WARNING: I do not recommend this if u do not know how woofers are supposed to sound free air. needless to say all types of subs sound different so be careful!!) you gotta know what u r doing. (MAY THE BASS HEADS RUN RAMPANT!!)
I agree with Muddy and Kenny, a motor is a motor break it in cannot hurt. Now as far as what Kenny says about the suspension is true. I like to gently press dead center on the cone around the edges of the coil cover and stretch the spiders unpowered. If you listen you can hear a slight crackle like starched fabric opening, do this both ways, helps a lot. Polo..
