Damn...those amps are under-rated big time lol.

thoes amps are nice, but exact output will vary from amp to amp and install to install as with all electronics.

That amp they tested was B STOCK!
even though that isnt really near realistic output, thats still VERY impressive....

I have a nine.1, they dont come with birthsheets.

at least you know they're underrated and they will put 1200w rms with 12V hehe

"What subs are you running on your NINe.1"

sadly, none :-(
I've got it sitting in my living room...
I'm either gonna use it to power my dd 9515, or treo ssx :P... whichever comes first, money to make box for 9515, or recone of ssx...

That "test" is wrong.

You cant just test your output voltage on the amp an get power. You have to get your current too.

for instance...they said the output voltage was 43volts.

the way they "calculated" power was 43^2.
40x40= 1600

That is the wrong way to measure an amp's output.

They would have needed a measurement for current also. For instance, lets say that they are wired to 1ohm nominal (DCR) and actually saw a box rise of 3ohm (AC).

Even w/ 40Vac they would have only got 13.33amps of current. What would be 533.2w in reality. And that is a reasonable amount.

Box rise plays a HUGE part in the power your amp acually produces.

Good job. Not many even know that impedence exists, or its effects. Can even get it from the wire you use, to various extents.

oh...thanks.

I learned about impedence rise a long time ago. Before I was like most people and thought "hey, 1000w @1ohm...that means my sub will get 1000w all the time". LOL.

I have seen on many occasions that people that 'think' they know about impedence rise really dont. Even alot of 'good' SPL competitors dont realize that voltage and current are not in phase w/ one another.

I cant count the number of times i have seen someone put their DMM and amp-clamp on peak-hold and try to find box rise...LMOA.

Thank you marshall. I think that the proper formula is (40 x 40) / 2. That would be 800 watts. And why would they install a lead-acid battery inside of the vehicle? Nice looking box though.

Thats at two ohms anyway. If the load was one ohm then his test would of been true. cause V^2 / R = P

no...the proper formula is:

V x A = P

and

V / A = I

I = impedence (ac), it will change w/ freqency.

for instance...my SX15 was wired to 1ohm DCR. But the amp actually 'saw' ~3.35ohm at my burp freqency.

I got this from on of my amps once (bp1200.1):
~50.5v and 15.1amps AC

50.5 / 15.1 = 3.344ohm <---actual load the amp saw

50.5 x 15.1 = ~762w <---actual power the amp gave me

In that install, I was doing 148.0-.6dB on TL regularly.

Ohms law: look at power on the picture and you will see: P=E^2/R
