Silver Member Username: SeriusMiami, FL USA Post Number: 161 Registered: Feb-06 | question does idle really matter? if it does y then |
Gold Member Username: TheelfkeeperStockbridge, GA USA Post Number: 3021 Registered: Feb-05 | yes, most HO alts are basically giving you stock or lower output at idle (when your sitting in traffic or something). so until you get the RPMs up above 1500-2000, you will not have the amperage needed for a high powered sound system and the voltage will drop. any time the voltage can drop, thats bad, especially for amps and the speakers/subs they are powering. so if you can get an alt with a higher idle amperage, go for it because thats a weak point. |
Gold Member Username: TheelfkeeperStockbridge, GA USA Post Number: 3022 Registered: Feb-05 | i've had a 200 amp, 110 at idle, Iraggi alt in my car now for about a year and its been great. just put a 180 amp, 105 or something at idle, in a friend's car. good stuff. |
Silver Member Username: SeriusMiami, FL USA Post Number: 162 Registered: Feb-06 | thanks for all ur help brandon. would the 180 or 200 be better for me. and now that i got the alt of the list i need to know what would be more useful for me a yellow top or red top? and also should i do a big 3 setup as well, if so what exactly needs to be changed and what guage wiring should i do thanks!! |

And for the big 3, for the gauge wiring you'll read it in that thread. And if you still didn't understand, just go with 0 gauge, nothing wrong with going big for the big 3 I believe. |
Silver Member Username: SeriusMiami, FL USA Post Number: 163 Registered: Feb-06 | i dnt want a batt in the trunk i just wanted to know wut would be better under the hood yellow or red.. thankss |
Silver Member Username: BernymacRialto, CA United States Post Number: 287 Registered: Sep-04 | I would go with a red, I have a red under the hood right now, works good. And plus if your going to run a HO alt, that would help more plus the big 3. The red top would charge up faster and is better for when you have the car on. |

Some alternators have a smaller pulley on them to increase the alternator idle amperage. Yes do the big three and if you can afford it then use 1/0 wire too. |
