Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 02:17 GMT I take it that it is not covered under warranty anymore and/or you were using it in a way that voided your warranty?

Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 13:15 GMT JL will most likely give you a new one instead of repairing it. This is why the cost will be a bit high.

Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 14:23 GMT Sure its the sub and not the amp. 500 watts to a W7 is nothing. and if it was wired a a low load it may have just smoked the amp. Just a thought.

Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 15:22 GMT welcome to amplifier clipping. you fried your own sub. turn the gain on the amplifier down next time. also, 500 watts for a JL 12W7 is ideal. Go much higher and you void the warranty by overpowering it. Look at the JL recommended power chart.

Thursday, September 21, 2006 - 17:50 GMT ^^^ Yeah the power chart was what I was refering to Glass. But, as soon as he said he was only using a 500w RF, I knew he was clipping the hell out of that thing! lol

Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 05:03 GMT 13w7^^^Like Glass said, the JL chart says 500 is ideal....too much voids their warranty.

Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 13:17 GMT the optimum is actually closer to 800wRMS...but you could have still fried it with a 500wRMS amp.

Saturday, September 23, 2006 - 15:24 GMT just use a PG 6001 or jl 500/1 and control the gain.. use a DMM to match it with your HU preout voltage
