New member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 1 Registered: Sep-06 | i have 4 of the new 15L7 and 2 memphis mojo amps they are 2400 watts rms in a wall in a 91 cadillac sedan deville. box now has approximatly 3 cubic ft per sub tuned at 36 hertz. i hit 146.7db at 46 hertz on the termlab mics at a sanctioned db drag ss 3,4. luckly not that many people showed up so i won my class but there were 2 sub cars hitting the same range and louder with stock altinators, no extra power upgrade as extensive as mine. any ideas ast how i can redo my box. any ideas greatly appreciated. this is my lay out: Pioneer Premier 860 Alpine V12 345 Diamond Audio D6 5 1/4 components Diamond Audio D6 6 1/2 components Kicker 4 06s15L7d2 Memphis Audio 2 mojo's stinger 290 amp alt stinger dry cell deep cycle die hard gold under hood 1/0 guage wire w/upgraded factory wiring to 1/0 |

New member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 4 Registered: Sep-06 | 1200 each and i love the stinger alt. i can beat on it all day and my voltage only drops to 12.1 at the lowest. Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5786 Registered: Aug-05 | 12.1 is bad....lol you are at battery voltage at that point man.... my alt when i first got it put in was a 15.2 at idel with the system full tilt. |
New member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 7 Registered: Sep-06 | thats when its on all day. when i compete it's always over 15 |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5787 Registered: Aug-05 | good. how much port area does your box have? and also what is it tuned to? |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5788 Registered: Aug-05 | forget the second question...saw it at the top. lol |
New member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 8 Registered: Sep-06 | the top two subs share a 6 cubic ft section and sme with the bottom two. I had my installers build the box when I managed sound waves but we didn't have kicker then but i do know that both ports are tuned to 36 htz and i test it with test tone 46 htz |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5790 Registered: Aug-05 | no....how much port area does the box have? width x height of the port opening... |
New member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 9 Registered: Sep-06 | let me go mesure right now |
New member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 10 Registered: Sep-06 | 4 1/2 w x 10 h x 12 deep |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5793 Registered: Aug-05 | so the whole box shares one port which is 4.5" wide by 10" high...that is 45sq.in. of port area.... so if your box is 12 cubic feet in volume and your port which is used for all 4 subs is 45sq.in. then your box has 3.75 sq.in. of port per cube....that is your problem. lol |
Bronze Member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 12 Registered: Sep-06 | no the box is devided 6 ft on top and 6 ft on bottom and a port for each the top and bottom. thank you for your quick response, i have a comp to go to monday so i need to get started tonight on fixing my problem |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5796 Registered: Aug-05 | ok...so then you have 45sqin for each 6 cube section.... that makes 7 sq.in. of port per 6ft section.... i would try more along the lines of 12-15 sq.in. of port per 6 cube section man....i dont think 7 is very much especially for the power you are running and if you are competing....the more port are the better. |
Bronze Member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 15 Registered: Sep-06 | could yo give me what you think the demensions could be, I was only a sale manager not installer so i need pointed in the right direction. i really cant go any wider then the 4 1/2 but i may be able to go a little taller, please help me figure this out. I would greatly appreciate it. |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5798 Registered: Aug-05 | hmmmmm i would try to shoot for around 85 sq.in. for each 6 cube section. so try like 5w x 17h or something to that effect. |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5799 Registered: Aug-05 | then try 4.5w x 19 high...and you will need to increase the port depth as well to keep the same tune....but if you are competing i would try 40hz tune or higher....but try it with the new port are fist with the same tune. here is a port calculator so you can configure how much deeper the port will need to be in a 6 cube box with around 85 or so sq.in. of port area for each 6 cube section. |
Bronze Member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 19 Registered: Sep-06 | do you think that will make a big diference and should i leave it 12" deep and what hz do you think that would be |

Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5801 Registered: Aug-05 | here is the port calculator... plug in your box size for each section(6 cubes) and the dimensions of the port(to get 85) and what you want the tuning to be and it will spit out a length for your port to acheive that tuning. http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5802 Registered: Aug-05 | for a 40hz tune with 85sq.in. of port in a 6 cube box...the port will need to be ~14 in. long. |
Bronze Member Username: SlickmanarinoPost Number: 21 Registered: Sep-06 | what hz should i tune the port at. if i choose 40 then acording to that web sight you showed me i would have to cut the depth of the port from 12" to 7.1 and i could leave the outer hole the same. wich would be nice since its all flush and looks really nice. but what hz do you think would be best for me, and does anyone know the resonance frequency for my 91 caddy sedan deville, if not will that help me choos were to tune my box at. |
Gold Member Username: Basshead86Google is your Friend, FL Post Number: 5808 Registered: Aug-05 | i would try 40 or hihger.....remember if 40 isn't loud enough...you can always cut more off....but you will have to make a new one to add it back... shoot for like 45 see where that gets you. |
