I decided that i'm going to get two RE SX12's. Now I need to figure out what i'll be using to power them. I was thinking of ordering two HIFONICS BXi1606D with 1600 Watts RMS @ 1 ohm, going to each sub. I know those Hifonics amps are overrated, so would those amps be good enough for daily driving, or should I get the 1200 Watt Hifonics amps? Also, should I get one box with both 12's in it or should i get two seperate enclosures, one for each sub.
depending on the vehicle...i would go w/ one 5cuft (net) box w/ 60-75sq inches of port tuned to 32-38hz (depending on what your like). it should be a loud SOB.
i THINK those new hifonics amps have a master/slave feature...you can use that and not have to worry about gain matching the 2 amps. you will just have to set the gain and crossover on one amp and the other will copy it. (if not, you can gain match the amps w/ a multimeter.)
BTW, those BXi amps are not that over rated...infact if you have a very good electrical system, they will put out dam near rated power...if not actually do rated power. (they are better amps than the Bx's)
What would be the difference between a 4 cuft. enclosure and a 5 cuft enclosure? Would the 5 cuft. enclosure be a little louder since it has more space, or would there harldy be a difference.
How does the enclosure below look, or should i change a few things?
Port Type: Slot Port Port Tuning: 33 Hz Port Dimensions: 13.125 x 5.5 inches (Height x Width) (port length is not displayed) Port area: 72.19 square inches Number of Ports: 1 Net Internal Volume: 4 cubic feet Port Volume: 1.58 cubic feet (includes displacement of port materials) Subwoofer Displacement: 0.16 cubic feet per subwoofer Total Internal Volume: 5.90 cubic feet Number of Terminal Cups: 1 per subwoofer Front Baffle: Single-Layer Front Baffle - 3/4" Thick Box Dimensions: ** Please ensure that this will fit in your vehicle before completing your order ** 40" (w) x 22.25" (d) x 14.625" (h)
That would be a pretty good box. RE recommends 2cuft per sub (i think).
4cuft will be OK, but if you have the space go w/ 5cuft. There will only be a small difference in sound, but it will be noticable. OH...and try 35hz for daily SQL.
i decided that im only going to get one SX12 for now and one Hifonics BXi1606D to power it. I don't have enough money for two of each after i get a new alt, new battery, and have the box custom built.
SX Series 12"..............Compact.............Optimal Sealed...........NOT RECCOMENDED........... Ported...........1.5 @ 35hz............2.0 @ 33hz
RE recommends 1.5 @ 35hz..So if i tune it to 35hz should i stay at 1.5 cuft or should i make it a little bigger. if so how big should i make it, and how many square inches of port is needed for a one sub enclosure. would 30sq.in. be enough? and would that 1600 watt hifonics amp be too much to run it daily?
How does this enclosure sound for a single RE SX12?
Port Type: Slot Port Port Tuning: 35 Hz Port Dimensions: 13.125 x 2.375 inches (h*w) Port area: 31.17 square inches Number of Ports: 1 Net Internal Volume: 2.25 cubic feet Port Volume: 0.55 cubic feet (includes displacement of port materials) Subwoofer Displacement: 0.16 cubic feet per subwoofer Total Internal Volume: 2.96 cubic feet Number of Terminal Cups: 1 per subwoofer Front Baffle: Single-Layer Front Baffle - 3/4" Thick Box Dimensions: 24.625" (w) x 19.125" (d) x 14.625" (h)
After I made my box, I thought of ways to improve it. One of the top ideas I had was doing 2 front baffles (1 cutout diameter) (2 sub outer ring diameter) that way the sub is flush with front baffle. ...it is a little extra work but it definelty would add a nice touch.
