Silver Member Username: SwisherMarianna, FL Post Number: 290 Registered: Apr-06 | about the same as u ive had 3 accounts but i want one anyways |
Silver Member Username: Rob_pregRoyal oak, Michigan United states Post Number: 500 Registered: Sep-05 | nope, you'll need atleast 500 farads. =| <- thats my serious face |
Silver Member Username: SwisherMarianna, FL Post Number: 291 Registered: Apr-06 | actually i should get 2 5 farads one for each amp right? |
Silver Member Username: Rob_pregRoyal oak, Michigan United states Post Number: 501 Registered: Sep-05 | but honestly, you dont need a capacitor. you need an upgraded electrical system. upgrade the big 3 wiring in your engine bay, your alt, and your battery. this will fix the problem your trying to cover up with a cap. |

Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 1409 Registered: Jan-06 | A high amp alternator WILL NOT stop the lights from flashing at night! This is a fact. It will help keep your voltage up but the transient peaks will still draw the voltage from 15V to battery voltage until the regulator kicks in. This is highly noticable but can be fixed with a cap. Usually the people who say you don't need a cap are the ones either are not running at night or not drawing enough amperage. Try drawing a good 250A and tell me what lights are not gonna flicker, lol. Polo. |
Silver Member Username: SwisherMarianna, FL Post Number: 298 Registered: Apr-06 | they alrdy dim with me runnin 1500 and i know the alt wont stop it nate alrdy told me that but i was waitin for someone to know what they talkin about to post thanks polo |
Gold Member Username: Extrmndor3Chicago, Ill Us Post Number: 1839 Registered: Feb-06 | i always liked cap they help u out filter out noise, help your voltage stays normal, plus i always had great experiences with caps, u will need 5 farad cap, the rule of thump of the caps its bullshit u have to always double the farad to have great results, caps are nto a big problem, they will not drain your batterie or take power from your alternator and mak it work harder absolutely not, why....??? 1st. caps can charge fast as hell, lighting fast, can charge in less than a second 2nd when u charge the cap its all done, heres how it works: when u have your cap and your amps running and when the bass strikes all the alternator will go into the amps and the power of the cap will go to the amps too they will not charge when the bass its striking when the amp its done with the bass theres its like 1 second or less and that free time the cap will recharge and will not overdrive the alternator because it will push only the necesary current for the cap in that time. and when the free time ends the cap will push all its current along with the alternator and batteries to the amps if the cap its not big it will just push all its current in less than 2 secons if u get a bigger cap it will push all its power in less than 3 seconds |
Silver Member Username: SwisherMarianna, FL Post Number: 301 Registered: Apr-06 | yea that why i figured 2 5 farads |

The only reason the voltage would drop is because there isn't enough current. If you have the current to run your system, then you will not have to worry about the voltage dropping and dimming lights. In addition, that is not how the regulator circuitry in an alternator works. The alternator detects the lower voltage so it puts out more current, thus stabalizing the voltage. This is not noticeable in any way unless it the alt can't put out enough power or the wiring is done incorrectly. Have you checked your wiring? Since when do systems run at 15v anyway? http://www.autoshop101.com/trainmodules/alternator/alt102.html http://www.alternatorparts.com/understanding_alternators.htm
They are indeed harder on your alternator. If you're getting a cap for looks, well, that's just a shame. |
