Ok just got my new sound system put in my car yesterday I have 2 alpine 12" type R sub woofers in a sealed box. I have one 2 channel amp, is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 550.2. I got it installed a best buy because i work there and i got a discount. Now I think they bridged the 2 channels and so its running a 150 W x 2 @ 4 Ohms RMS and the subs can take up to 500W. I dont know much about this stuff and i dont even know if i am talking about the right things, but my friend has the same subs and they sound like 4 times louder then mine not sure what amp he had he moved a wile ago an I stoped talking to him just want to know if any of you had any suggestions on an amp i am thinking about returning the amp and getting this one. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....6&type=product O and btw the sub has to be from best buy becasue i get a big discount on it.

link don't work for that amp. but i have the same subs and in a sealed box they do kinda suck. put them in a ported box tuned about 32-35hz, and give each sub 600-650wrms and you'll be alot happier.

You can get two Alpine MRD-605 amps and run each one to each woofer. The best buy i live close to sells them and they are good for that sub depending on the VC config. I had two of these and two type-r 12's myself and it was pretty descent to me but then i upgraded.

make sure your box is built correctly to the specs of the sub

if you buy a random box from the store, it wont be made to the specs of ur sub.

check your "gain" also, and make sure its set to the pre-out voltage of your HU

if that box is 1.25 cu. ft. per sub it's to big. alpine recommends .8 cu. ft. per sub with 1 cu. ft. the biggest, if i remember right. definately get one made pre fab boxes suck. and go ported with them. just read the manuel for your headunit in the back with the specs and it'll say the pre out voltage.

every HU has a pre-out voltage

some 2 some 8 volts

you have something on your amp called the "gain" or "level" -- on some amps.

sometimes the gain is from 2-8volts (min = all the way counterclockwise, and max = counterclockwise)

if ur HU was 4v output, you would set the gain right in the middle

some amps go from millivolts - volts. then you just have to convert. i have seem 200 milivolts - 4v, so you just have to calculate. look in your amp manual ot see what the range of your gain is...

the see what the pre-out voltage of ur HU is, and set that to your amp

make sure your subsonic filter, is OFF

and you LPF arond 80hz

box is not to big.. just not enough power for those subs.. u can go ported or sealed.. i personally liked them in sealed boxes better, of course they will get louder ported though

wow you guys have been a great help I guess i need a new amp and a smaller box and I need to check the setting on my amp for now. My friend has an L7 sitting in room in vented box so I am going to try hooking that up to my current amp and bridge the 2 channels to see how much louder it is. I know the L7 is a much better sub then the type R but i just want to see how is sounds. If any one had any onther suggestions pls let me know.
