Ok.. here's the deal.. I have an JBL BPx1100.1 Amplifier and an Alpine SWR 1242D Subwoofer wired at 2 ohms in a sealed box. I would like to get my car poundin and add another Type-R 1242D sub.
I was asking around best buy and they mentioned that an amp shouldn't have over 80% of it's RMS power used or something like that... otherwise I might risk blowing my amp. I don't know if it's true or not.. but I definatly don't wanna risk blowing my amp. (It's fairly new)
I wanna get both subs wired at 2 ohm and then get a new ported duo box.
Will it be possible to bridge the subs to my one amp.. or will it be too risky and blow my amp?
Thanks, Just got a little paranoid for a bit.. but I really CAN'T afford to buy new stuff (cause of college) to have it destroyed by a miscalculation..
Ok.. so the subs are running slightly above there specified RMS from alpine.. ok.. that's good. A ported 2 sub box is what I am planning on putting them in.
My amp isn't gonna be on overdrive for the subs... I mean.. 1 ohm should be easier on the amp than a 2 ohm right?
Also is that 80% amp RMS thing true... that an amplifier shouldn't run over 80% of it's RMS while powering subwoofers?
first, def. go ported with the r's. second, 1ohm load is harder on your amp than a 2ohm load. and i'm still confused on what you mean by the 80% thing, cause i don't know what your saying.
I don't really know either... I just heard it today from someone at best buy. I think he just meant it as a way to tell if your amp is working too hard
if a amp is built to handle a 1 ohm load it will do just that confortably
overpowering ur subs by a little bit is NO worry in fact alot of type R owners (including myself) have given these subs just over 600wrms each with no problems
