I have a '94 Chevy X-Cab 1500 pickup and I'm trying to put a decent system in for under $1000. Here is what I have put together so far. I'm pushing 1K at the moment with everything listed. I would like opinions on what I have listed and anything that I could do better (at a comparable price). I mostly listen to metal but I do play a bit of everything.
Deck - Pioneer DEH-P7800MP
Kenwood KAC-6402-Amp for the 4-4X6's Kenwood KFC-4675C 4"x6" 2-way speakers
Rockford Fosgate Punch P4002 (2)Rockford Fosgate P110S4 10" Subs R/T 762-10 Subwoofer Enclosure (fits under back seat).
It looks pretty good. I would probably run a different sub off the Fosgate amp, though. Fosgate makes great amps, but the quality of their subs isn't too great, still not bad subs though.
Anything Kenwood is usually a bad thing, if you can replace those with something else-namely Alpine-it would give you some better sound. 4x6s wouldn't sound that great either, if you could make a custom enclosure or get a kick pod for some 6.5"s you'll be much better off.
