I have a 1991 Ford Taurus The last owner installed his own radio and cut all the wires. My problem is this, the power lines work and they fit in the old factory installed AM/FM casett deck fine, but the speaker wires are cut. I know how to solder so fixing them is not the problem, the problem is this, there are only 5 wires, not 8, i have identified 4 of the wires to be LF, RF, LR and RR + wires, but the last one is not marked and its white. I dont know much about car audio but is that last wire the neg (-) wire for all 4 speakers? it seems a bit odd... but i really want to be able to at least listen to something in my car when i am driving. Thankyou
The white may be a common ground for all your speakers. It sounds strange, but then again, this is a "Ford", and again it is a "Taurus". I dont mean to insult, but that particular car make and model is/has always been problematic. No pun intended.
There are many other companies that design witrh a common ground, but usually they are common across the ballance, not fader.
Try hooking it up, and see what happens. You will not damage your speakers, since white is not known as a power wire. It is usually known as a (+) speaker wire.
ok so the stock radio works with the 5 wires, but i just got a new head unit.. and it says that i my speakers cannot share a negitive lead for right and left speakers, does this eman i am gonna have to run speaker wire through my damn car? thats gonna suck
