My amp has some settings, and i know most of them except for the 12 db per octave and 24 dc per octave? how does this affect my sub's performance, and what does it mean?
It lets you control how steep the frequency falls off at a certain point. If you set you LPF at 80 hz and used a 12db/octave slope it would fall off gradually allowing the 80hz and a little more until it fully drops off (trying to keep it simple). Say for instance you want 80 hertz to be the highest frequency your sub hits so you would use a higher slope so it drops off steeper at that point and does not include any higher frequencies (24, 48db/octave). I usually set my lowpass slightly lower than my target frequecy say like 70hz and use a 12db/octave slope so it blends in and my highpass which in my case on my mono sub amp is the subsonic filter, I set that at 20hz with a steep 48db/octave slope to keep everything below that out (ported box).
