Silver Member Username: Troy81Tavernier, Fl Us Post Number: 144 Registered: Mar-06 | what is the biggest box i could make for those subs, how do i calculate ft^3, obviously LxWxH... but for the inside, and wood thickness what kind of port would i need |
Bronze Member Username: Livin_loudNy Post Number: 70 Registered: Jan-06 | Well just subtract the thickness of the wood from the outer dimensions then use the results to calculate it. You'll want to make the box a little smaller than the max dimensions you have to fit it so can get it in. You can choose to use a slot port or round ports using aeroports or something similar. It's your preference what type you use, doesn't really matter, but a slot port will make the box stronger |
Silver Member Username: Matt12490Benicia, California USA Post Number: 845 Registered: May-05 | to get ft^3 do this: -get your outer dimensions (ie 25" x 45" x 15") -subtract 1.5" off each side if you are going to use .75" thick wood (most people do)(2" if your using 1" thick wood) -so now you have 23.5" x 43.5" x 13.5" -multiply them together and you get 13800.375in.^3 -then divide by 1728 to get ft. ^3 -you have 7.99 ft.^3 for a box |

Silver Member Username: Troy81Tavernier, Fl Us Post Number: 145 Registered: Mar-06 | well im just gonna make a 4.5 cubic feet box at 35hz, ill use 12volt.com can i use regular plywood? if not, why? where, how, and how much can i get MDF for? |
Silver Member Username: Troy81Tavernier, Fl Us Post Number: 146 Registered: Mar-06 | 12volt.com only has circle ports, how do i calculate slot ports? my box, if im right, should be : 36 X 14.5 X 20~4.4 cubes @ 35hz 1" thickness how do i make the port? |
Bronze Member Username: Livin_loudNy Post Number: 90 Registered: Jan-06 | You can use plywood, but it's not the best choice. It flexes more than MDF. You can get MDF at Home Depot. I got a fairly large sheet for ~$22, but I'll need a little more to complete my box. Don't get me wrong there, because my box is going to be huge. Use the link below for the slot port. Go to the section called "Calculate Your Vent Length". It's what I used, but you have to have the total cubes of the box before you do it. Note that you decide what the height and width are of the box on your own, along with the tuning frequency. In the end it will give you the depth of your port http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 |

Silver Member Username: Troy81Tavernier, Fl Us Post Number: 149 Registered: Mar-06 | well, that didnt work, any way i put it all in and it said i needed a 0 " long port?? |
Bronze Member Username: Livin_loudNy Post Number: 95 Registered: Jan-06 | Well you must have done something wrong... Give me the volume in cu. ft of your box, what you want to tune it to, and your desired height and width of the port. |
Silver Member Username: Troy81Tavernier, Fl Us Post Number: 150 Registered: Mar-06 | 4.4 ft^3 I put in 13 inches i think, but you can use whatevr size would be easiest..... the box is 14.5"tall X 36" wide X 20" deep so probably 3" wide port |

Silver Member Username: Livin_loudNy Post Number: 110 Registered: Jan-06 | Alright, this port is tuned to 32hz. 13" x 3" x 16.67" (anything about .20" off of that is fine) depth. |
Silver Member Username: Troy81Tavernier, Fl Us Post Number: 164 Registered: Mar-06 | would that be a good spl box? |
