Silver Member Username: GoatinU.S.A Post Number: 870 Registered: Jan-06 | You want to use 3/4" MDF board if you are trying to use it for a sub box. Not any kind of plywoods you want MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) it should be one solid piece no layers. |

Silver Member Username: NypdlapdOntario Canada Post Number: 363 Registered: Feb-06 | is that MDF in my pic becuase i found it in my basment hiddin behide our pool????
Silver Member Username: GoatinU.S.A Post Number: 871 Registered: Jan-06 | If so it should be one solid piece with no layers and 3/4" thick. If you cant bend it and it is very heavy I think so from what I can see. |

Silver Member Username: NypdlapdOntario Canada Post Number: 365 Registered: Feb-06 | yea its 3/4" thickand there no layers just one soild peice!! so its MDF??
Silver Member Username: GoatinU.S.A Post Number: 872 Registered: Jan-06 | I would say yes and acording to what James said. "Any hard wood will work well." I always use MDF though. If it is a full 49" X 97" piece prop it up on something and see if you can bend it if not or very little I would say yes. |

Bronze Member Username: Shawndecker1Pine hill, Nj Usa Post Number: 15 Registered: Apr-06 | I just took a chance on building a home theater subwoofer with an enclosure volume of 7.25 cu's, using 3/4" plywood. It sounds awesome with little or no box vibration. It is properly braced and sealed as tight. A 500w Bash plate amp drives 4 10" 250w subs. So why is plywood not recommended for box enclosures?
Gold Member Username: James1115Ct Post Number: 5758 Registered: Dec-04 | plywood is fine but marine grade is reccomended because of the voids that plywood tends to have.
Bronze Member Username: Shawndecker1Pine hill, Nj Usa Post Number: 16 Registered: Apr-06 | I heard that plywood has a tendancy to delaminate under extreme stress a sub can throw at it. Also not to use in auto applications due to the moisture and temperature extremes, causing seperation of said layers.
Silver Member Username: NypdlapdOntario Canada Post Number: 368 Registered: Feb-06 | is particle board ok becuase my nextdoor neighrbour has tons in his woodworking room and he said i can take a few sheets??? on my sub manual its says particle board is ok if the volume is under 1.5 cu feet??? can i as for its just for a daily driver(MOMS CAR)??? |

Bronze Member Username: Shawndecker1Pine hill, Nj Usa Post Number: 17 Registered: Apr-06 | There may be some confusion to MDF and partical board. To me they are the same thing. If however, you are refering to wafer board, the stuff used on exterior sheathing on homes, a big no-no. I'm sure you're not talking about that.
Silver Member Username: NypdlapdOntario Canada Post Number: 369 Registered: Feb-06 | the tag say "Particle board">>>>
Gold Member Username: James1115Ct Post Number: 5765 Registered: Dec-04 | fiber board and particle board are not the same thing. Particle board is the cr@p that falls apart under pressure and time. MDF is the easiest choice and the cheapest just go to Home depot and grab a sheet it is $30
Silver Member Username: GoatinU.S.A Post Number: 875 Registered: Jan-06 | I get MDF for 21.10 a sheet at lowes where I live I just need a truck.lol
Bronze Member Username: Shawndecker1Pine hill, Nj Usa Post Number: 18 Registered: Apr-06 | Yeah, the stuff under custom counter tops is MDF. Some cheaper furniture is made of it as well, entertainment centers, bookshelves, ect.... |
