New member Username: Krnricebowl57Post Number: 9 Registered: Apr-06 | hey i was wondinerg is not having a capicator bad for your alternator. about how many watts do u need before u need a cap? right now i drive a 98 honda civic stock, and lights dim with 750 watts max and 250 watts rms. the problem is the car just turns off while im driving. even without the music on it just turns off. i was wondering this is prollie resutl of no cap ? |

Silver Member Username: CtmikeCt. Post Number: 337 Registered: Feb-06 | not having a cap is not bad for your alt., cap. only adds to the strain on it. i'm running about 950wrms on my stock alt. on 92 accord and i've never had my car turn off. i'd take it someplace to get it looked at. |

Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 5515 Registered: Nov-04 | Use a DMM and measure the battery with engine off. See if it's 12.5v or higher. Now with engine on, test it again. It should be around 13.5v - 14.2v. With music on loud, monitor the voltage. If it dips below 11v, then you will need HO alternator. |
