Do i need a capaciator? no cap = bad?

hey i was wondinerg is not having a capicator bad for your alternator. about how many watts do u need before u need a cap?

right now i drive a 98 honda civic stock, and lights dim with 750 watts max and 250 watts rms. the problem is the car just turns off while im driving. even without the music on it just turns off. i was wondering this is prollie resutl of no cap ?

not having a cap is not bad for your alt., cap. only adds to the strain on it.

i'm running about 950wrms on my stock alt. on 92 accord and i've never had my car turn off. i'd take it someplace to get it looked at.

hmmm i don't see you on aim. anywayz. hmm. whats the point for a cap. then? i think i should get one becuase the lights do dim.but how do i knoe how many farads to get? how many should i have 1? 2?

ok i dont' want a cap. i see it puts more strain on the alt. so should i get a high output alt? how many amps does stock alt put out?

go to autozone.com and look for a replacement alt. and it'll tell you the size of your stock alt.

excessive amperage is doing a group buy in may for ho alt. email them and they'll get you a price quote.

Andrew, you could be having a battery problem. Have it checked out.

battery problem? i've never had battery problem before. i can sit there and listen to the radio or music for a long time just on battery and car will start perfectly fine.

Use a DMM and measure the battery with engine off. See if it's 12.5v or higher. Now with engine on, test it again. It should be around 13.5v - 14.2v.
With music on loud, monitor the voltage. If it dips below 11v, then you will need HO alternator.

i would say if it gets at 12v then you need one, mabey even 12.5v
