Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 47 Registered: Mar-06 | yeah it will be tuned to 43 Hz, and yes it is my 1st box, but that roughness you see is just where the saw blade burnt the wood, and some spots are just glue drying.... |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 48 Registered: Mar-06 | for the ports, they are supposed to be 15.5 in deep, so would i make the L part 15.5 in or should i go by the outside wall of the box or what? |
Gold Member Username: RovinTrinidad & T... Post Number: 7495 Registered: Jul-05 | 43hz ! dude - do u know what 43hz actually sounds like !? , alot of SPL with little SQ - unless ur building this box 2 go SPL comps !?..... |
Gold Member Username: TheelfkeeperStockbridge, GA USA Post Number: 1886 Registered: Feb-05 | yeah, 43hz...thats not gonna sound too good musically. |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 50 Registered: Mar-06 | well its what the factory recommended |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 51 Registered: Mar-06 | i will soon find out what it sounds like.....hopefully it isnt too bad, there was another option to make a box tuned to 38 for my subs but the box ws gonna have to b huge and i got small trunk space in my car |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 52 Registered: Mar-06 | i guess i havent built the ports yet... what can i still do to tune it a little better? |
Silver Member Username: DankumCalifornia Post Number: 166 Registered: Sep-05 | how u gonna seal the top now? u can put the port in usin spacers if u know the width of your port. If your port is lets say 3" wide then make some blocks 3" wide. |
Gold Member Username: Young_jamesCanada Post Number: 1283 Registered: Sep-05 | what subs do you have that reccomend 43hz? |
Bronze Member Username: KungpowPost Number: 18 Registered: Mar-06 | Audiobahn hahaha. Really I don't know. |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 53 Registered: Mar-06 | they are memphis power reference subs, 12" go to http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/products/details.asp?id=57 and click on box spec and mine is ther pr124 |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 54 Registered: Mar-06 | actually click on "more details" and then "box specs" its the pr124 , first it lists cu ft, then tuning frequency, then port demensions. and if you all think that 43hz is too high, then what can i do to make it lower....to like 38hz? i havnt built the ports yet, all i have done is what you see in the pic |
Silver Member Username: SolacedagonyNew Jersey US Post Number: 896 Registered: Oct-04 | Try finding the T/S parameters on the sub and modeling it in WinISD or a similar box program. If you want an SQ ported box, look like 28 or 30hz. If you're looking for a little more SPL, continue up in tuning. |
Silver Member Username: WinterfreshpimpChisago, MN America Post Number: 166 Registered: Mar-06 | what about sql tuning? is there such a thing? |
Bronze Member Username: SwisherMarianna, FL Post Number: 67 Registered: Apr-06 | "what about sql tuning? is there such a thing?" someone already answered that "dude - do u know what 43hz actually sounds like !? , alot of SPL with little SQ - unless ur building this box 2 go SPL comps !?....." |

Bronze Member Username: NorthomahaPost Number: 26 Registered: Mar-06 | what are these box building programs ive heard about and where can i get them or download them? |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 55 Registered: Mar-06 | yeah....i wouldnt mind having one of those myself, but i cant download anything, i got dial-up internet..... |
Bronze Member Username: GrebnereonPost Number: 56 Registered: Mar-06 | ok, i emailed "tech support" from memphis audio.com asking if 43hz was actually what the subs should be tuned to and this is the reply: "The Power Reference subwoofer line is not exactly the best sounding woofer we have. However, 43hz isn't such a horrible tuning frequency if you want the subwoofer to sound decent, although I do agree it is not the best tuning for more sq rather than booming bass. Our enclosure recommendation charts are a starting point. And if you wish to achieve a lower tuning frequency with this PR12d subwoofer box, you can certainly make the port longer, but it would be advised for you to add airspace to the 1.50 cubic feet. PR subs favor larger boxes." |
